Answer:

The mass of iron produced is 44.29 grams

Explanation:

Al + FeO3   \rightarrow

Aluminium + Iron III oxide

2Al + F₂O₃ → Al₂O₃ + 2Fe

Molar mass of Al = 26.981539 g/mol

Molar mass of F₂O₃ = 159.69 g/mol

Number of moles of Aluminium = 21.4 g/26.981539 g/mol = 0.7931 moles

Number of moles of F₂O₃ = 91.3 g/159.69 g/mol = 0.572 moles

Hence, 1 mole of Al combines with 1/2 moles of F₂O₃, 0.7931 moles of Al will combine with 0.7931 × 1/2 or 0.3966 moles of F₂O₃ to produce 0.7931 moles of iron

Molar mass of iron = 55.845 g/mol

Therefore the mass of iron produced = Number of moles × Molar mass = 0.7931 × 55.845 = 44.29 grams.

A solution is made by mixing equal masses of methanol, CH 4 O , and ethanol, C 2 H 6 O . Determine the mole fraction of each com
Fynjy0 [20]

Answer:

Mole fraction of CH_4O = 0.58

Mole fraction of C_2H_6O = 0.42

Explanation:

Let the mass of CH_4O and C_2H_6O = x g

Molar mass of CH_4O = 33.035 g/mol

The formula for the calculation of moles is shown below:

moles = \frac{Mass\ taken}{Molar\ mass}

Thus,

Moles_{CH_4O}= \frac{x\ g}{33.035\ g/mol}

Moles_{CH_4O}=\frac{x}{33.035}\ mol

Molar mass of C_2H_6O = 46.07 g/mol

Thus,

Moles= \frac{x\ g}{46.07\ g/mol}

Moles_{C_2H_6O}=\frac{x}{46.07}\ mol

So, according to definition of mole fraction:

Mole\ fraction\ of\ CH_4O=\frac {n_{CH_4O}}{n_{CH_4O}+n_{C_2H_6O}}

Mole\ fraction\ of\ CH_4O=\frac{\frac{x}{33.035}}{\frac{x}{33.035}+\frac{x}{46.07}}=0.58

Mole fraction of C_2H_6O = 1 - 0.58 = 0.42

What is the pH of an acid with a [H+] of 1.0 x 10&amp;-4 M?<br><br> 1. 4<br> 2. 10<br> 3. 1<br> 4. 7
True [87]
PH scale is from 1 to 14 and indicates how acidic or basic a solution is. To find pH or pOH we need to know the H⁺ ion concentration or OH⁻ concentration.
pH can be calculated using the following equation;
pH = -log[H⁺]
the H⁺ concentration of the given acid is 1.0 x 10⁻⁴ M. substituting this we can find the pH
pH = -log[1x10⁻⁴]
pH = 4
answer is 1) 4

I am finding the formula of a compound that has 60% Carbon, 32% Oxygen, and 8% Hydrogen. Although, when it comes to actually cre
nataly862011 [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

To determine the molecular formula of the compound, the empirical formula must be determined first. To determine the empirical formula, the percentage of each constituent is divided by its molar mass. This is shown below

Carbon = 60/12 = 5

Oxygen = 32/16 = 2

Hydrogen = 8/1 = 8

The next step is to divide each ratio by the smallest value. The smallest value is 2. It becomes

Carbon = 5/2 = 2.5

It is approximated to 3

Oxygen = 2/2 = 1

Hydrogen = 8/2 = 4

Therefore, the empirical formula is

C3H4O

From the given relative molecular mass of the compound, the molecular formula can be determined

What did J.J. Thomson discover about the atom that changed the atomic model previously used?
galina1969 [7]
J.J. Thomson hypothesized and discovered that the atom was not the smallest unit of matter but that instead there were much smaller units. He discovered "sub-atomic particles" which make up atoms. The sub-atomic particle that Thomson discovered was the electron. He discovered this through a process of experiments testing cathode rays.

Arrange the following ions in order of increasing ionic radius.
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

Ca 2+ <K  +  <Ar<Cl  −  <S  2−

Explanation:

Ar,K  + ,Cl  − ,S  2− ,Ca  2+

 have the same number of electrons. Their radii would be different because of their different nuclear charges. The cation with the greater positive charge will have a smaller radius because of the greater attraction of the electrons to the nucleus. Anion with the greater negative charge will have the larger radius. In this case, the net repulsion of the electrons will outweigh the nuclear charge and the ion will expand in size. Hence the correct order will be Ca

2+  <K +  <Ar<Cl  −  <S  2−
