A concentrated load P is applied to the upper end of a 1.47-m-long pipe. The outside diameter of the pipe is D = 112 mm and the

inside diameter is d = 101 mm.
(a) Compute the value of Q for the pipe.
(b) If the allowable shear stress for the pipe shape is 83 MPa, determine the maximum load P that can be applied to the cantilever beam.

Answer:

Pmax = 38251.73 N

Explanation:

Given info

L = 1.47 m

D = 112 mm ⇒ R = D/2 = 112/2 mm = 56 mm

d = 101 mm  ⇒ r = D/2 = 101/2 mm = 50.5 mm

a) We can apply the following equation in order to get Q (First Moment of Area):

Q = 2*(A₁*y₁-A₂*y₂)

where

A₁ = π*R² = π*(56 mm)² = 3136 π mm²

y₁ = 4*R/(3*π) = 4*56/(3*π) mm = 224/(3*π) mm

A₂ = π*r² = π*(50.5 mm)² = 2550.25 π mm²

y₂ = 4*r/(3*π) = 4*50.5/(3*π) mm = 202/(3*π) mm

then

Q = 2*(3136 π mm²*224/(3*π) mm-2550.25 π mm²*202/(3*π) mm)

⇒ Q = 62437.833 mm³

b) If  τallow = 83 MPa = 83 N/mm²

P = ?

We can use the equation

τ = V*Q / (t*I)   ⇒  V = τ*t*I / Q

where

t = D - d = 112 mm - 101 mm = 11 mm

I = (π/64)*(D⁴-d⁴) = (π/64)*((112 mm)⁴-(101 mm)⁴) = 2615942.11 mm⁴

Q = 62437.833 mm³

we could also use this equation in order to get Q:

Q = (4/3)*(R³-r³)

⇒  Q = (4/3)*((56 mm)³-(50.5 mm)³) = 62437.833 mm³

then we have

V = (83 N/mm²)*(11 mm)*(2615942.11 mm⁴) / (62437.833 mm³)

⇒ V = 2942.255 N

Finally Pmax = V = 38251.73 N

A study of online dating found that when including emoticons in their profiles, response rates for female users _______ by _____
Dvinal [7]

Answer:

Increased, 5%

Explanation:

Recent studies conducted on online dating sites established that the response of female users increased by 5% when emotions are in their profiles even as for male users' response also increased by 8%. Another study also revealed that those who have never used online dating sites and/or mobile dating apps believe that people who use dating apps are desperate.

Q2: The average water height of an ocean area is 2.5 m high and each wave lasts for an average period of 7 s. Determine (a) the
navik [9.2K]

Answer:

(a) 561.12 W/ m² (b) 196.39 MW

Explanation:

Solution

(a) Determine the energy and power of the wave per unit area

The energy per unit are of the wave is defined as:

E = 1 /16ρgH²

= 1/16 * 1025 kg/ m3* 9.81 m/s² * (2.5 m )²

=3927. 83 J/m²

Thus,

The power of the wave per unit area is,

P = E/ t

= 3927. 83 J/m² / 7 s = 561.12 W/ m²

(b) The average and work power output of a wave power plant

W = E * л * A

= 3927. 83 J/m² * 0.35 * 1 *10^6 m²

= 1374.74 MJ

Then,

The power produced by the wave for one km²

P = P * л * A

= 5612.12 W/m² * 0.35 * 1* 10^6 m²

=196.39 MW

Vitrification is a process of: a. Chemical reaction bonding of aggregate ceramic powder b. Cementing aggregate ceramic powder wi
mrs_skeptik [129]

Answer: Viscous flow formation of ceramics

Explanation:

Vitrification  is the transformation of a substance into a glass,or in other wods,  non-crystalline amorphous solid. In the production of ceramics, vitrification is responsible for its impermeability to water.

Vitrification is usually achieved by heating materials until they liquidize, then cooling the liquid, often rapidly, so that it passes through the glass transition to form a vitrified solid. Certain chemical reactions also result in glasses.

The most common applications are in the making of pottery, glass, and some types of food, but there are many others, such as the vitrification of an antifreeze-like liquid in cryopreservation.
