The greenhouse effect is where gasses act as a "greenhouse" for heat. Ultraviolet waves come in, and heat the surface. the surface then emits infrared radiation (heat). this radiation is caught by the greenhouse gasses, and stays in the atmosphere. common examples of greenhouse gasses: carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone.

A river carries pieces of granite from a mountain to the sea.
Inessa [10]

Answer:

The Granite is eroded, weathered, and is being transported away. The Granite will then be deposited into a lake or a sea. This could also go to help form a new sedimentary rock.

Calculate the mass of CO2 that can be produced if the reaction of 54.0 g of propane and sufficient oxygen has a 64.0% yield.
Oduvanchick [21]

Answer:

103.9 g

Explanation:

 • C₃H₈ + 5O₂ → 3CO₂ + 4H₂O

First we convert 54.0 g of propane (C₃H₈) into moles, using its molar mass:

 • 54.0 g ÷ 44 g/mol = 1.23 mol C₃H₈

Then we convert 1.23 moles of C₃H₈ into moles of CO₂, using the stoichiometric coefficients:

 • 1.23 mol C₃H₈ * \frac{3molCO_2}{1molC_3H_8} = 3.69 mol CO₂

We convert 3.69 moles of CO₂ into grams, using its molar mass:

 • 3.69 mol CO₂ * 44 g/mol = 162.36 g

And apply the given yield:

 • 162.36 g * 64.0/100 = 103.9 g

If the solubility of a gas is 10.5 g/L at 525 kPa pressure, what is the solubility of the gas when the pressure is 225 kPa? Show
Talja [164]

Answer:

4.5 g/L.

Explanation:

 • To solve this problem, we must mention Henry's law.
 • Henry's law states that at a constant temperature, the amount of a given gas dissolved in a given type and volume of liquid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of that gas in equilibrium with that liquid.
 • It can be expressed as: P = KS,

P is the partial pressure of the gas above the solution.

K is the Henry's law constant,

S is the solubility of the gas.

 • At two different pressures, we have two different solubilities of the gas.

∴ P₁S₂ = P₂S₁.

P₁ = 525.0 kPa & S₁ = 10.5 g/L.

P₂ = 225.0 kPa & S₂ = ??? g/L.

∴ S₂ = P₂S₁/P₁ = (225.0 kPa)(10.5 g/L) / (525.0 kPa) = 4.5 g/L.
