Answer:

0.975 g of H₂

Explanation:

The equation for the reaction between magnesium and HCl is given by;

Mg + 2HCl --> MgCl2 + H2

We are given 35.2 g of of HCl reacted with excess magnesium.

We are required to calculate the amount of Hydrogen produced;

Step 1: Calculation of number of moles of HCl

To calculate the number of moles we divide the mass by the molar mass

Molar mass of HCl= 36.46 g/mol

Mass of HCl = 35.2 g

Number of moles = 35.2 g ÷ 36.46 g/mol

                            = 0.965 moles

Step 2: Moles of Hydrogen produced

From the equation, the mole ratio of HCl to H₂ is 2 : 1

Therefore; Moles of Hydrogen = Moles of HCl ÷ 2

                                                   = 0.965 moles ÷ 2

                                                  = 0.4825 moles

Step 3: Mass of hydrogen gas produced

Mass is calculated by multiplying the number of moles by the molar mass.

Molar mass of hydrogen =2.02 g/mol

Moles of hydrogen = 0.4825 moles

Mass of Hydrogen = 0.4825 moles × 2.02 g/mol

                               = 0.97465

                               = 0.975 g

Therefore; 0.975 g of hydrogen will be produced.

Identify at least two pollutants that destroy the ozone layer. Discuss the origination of these pollutants and a plan for reduct
Svetradugi [14.3K]

The two pollutants that destroys the ozone layer are CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons) and Methyl bromide. When the sun rays hit these molecules, they releases chlorine and bromine into the atmosphere. The chlorine and bromine reacts with the ozone present in the stratosphere and thus results in the depletion.

The origination of these pollutants are refrigerators, Air conditioners and aerosol cans.

6. 6 M HCl is added to a solution of Ag , Cu2 , Fe3 . A white precipitate forms. Predict which ions are present. Make sure you e
ipn [44]

Answer:

Ag^{+} is present in solution

Explanation:

In presence of HCl, metal ions present in solution will be precipitated as metal chloride provided these salts are either insoluble or sparingly soluble in water.

According to solubility rule, all chlorides are soluble except AgCl, PbCl_{2} and Hg_{2}Cl_{2}

In all probability, addition of HCl in solution will result formation of AgCl, CuCl_{2} and FeCl_{3}. But only AgCl is insoluble. Hence it will get precipitated out of solution.

So, Ag^{+} is present in solution

Balanced reaction: Ag^{+}(aq.)+Cl^{-}(aq.)\rightarrow AgCl(s)
