A jogger hears a car alarm and decides to investigate. While running toward the car, she hears an alarm frequency of 872.10 Hz.

After passing the car, she hears the alarm at a frequency of 851.10 Hz. If the speed of sound is 343 m/s. 1) Calculate the speed of the jogger.

Answer:

v = 4.18 m/s

Explanation:

given,

frequency of the alarm = 872.10 Hz

after passing car frequency she hear = 851.10 Hz

Speed of sound = 343 m/s

speed of the jogger = ?

speed of the

v_f = \dfrac{872.10-851.10}{2}

v_f =10.5\ Hz

v_o = 872.1 - 10.5

V_0 = 861.6\ Hz

The speed of jogger

v = \dfrac{v_1 \times 343}{v_0}-343

v = \dfrac{872.1 \times 343}{861.6}-343

v = 4.18 m/s

Displacement depends upon the path taken as it is a vector.

From your problem above we would have a total displacement of;
Defining +x direction as east and -x direction as west

6east-3west+1east+6east-7west

6-3+1+6-7=3 blocks east or + x-direction

So even though they walked a total of 17 blocks it ends up only being 3 blocks total in +xdirection that was travelled by displacement.

A 2 nC point charge is at the origin, and a second 5 nC point charge is on the x-axis at x = 8 m. Find the electric field (magni
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

The magnitude of  the electric field is 5.75 N/C towards positive x- axis.

Explanation:

Given that,

Point charge at origin = 2 nC

Second charge = 5 nC

Distance at x axis = 8 m

We need to calculate the electric field at the point x = 2 m

Using formula of electric field

E=\dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_{0}}(\dfrac{q_{1}}{r_{1}^2}+\dfrac{q_{2}}{r_{2}^2})

Put the value into the formula

E=9\times10^{9}\times(\dfrac{2\times10^{-9}}{2^2}+\dfrac{5\times10^{-9}}{(8-2)^2})

E=5.75\ N/C

The direction is toward positive x- axis.

Hence, The magnitude of  the electric field is 5.75 N/C towards positive x- axis.

A research vessel is mapping the bottom of the ocean using sonar. It emits a short sound pulse called "ping" downward. The frequ
Svetradugi [14.3K]

Answer:

d = 4180.3m

wavelengt of sound is 0.251m

Explanation:

Given that

frequency of the sound is 5920 Hz

v=1485m/s

t=5.63s

let d represent distance from the vessel to the ocean bottom.

an echo travels a distance equivalent to 2d, that is to and fro after it reflects from the obstacle.

velocity=\frac{distance}{time}\\\\ v=\frac{2d}{t} \\\\vt=2d\\\\d=\frac{vt}{2}

d=\frac{1485*5.63}{2}\\d= 4180.3m

wavelengt of sound is \lambda = v/f

= (1485)/(5920)

= 0.251 m
