The 94-lb force P is applied to the 220-lb crate, which is stationary before the force is applied. Determine the magnitude and d

irection of the friction force F exerted by the horizontal surface on the crate. The friction force is positive if to the right, negative if to the left.

Answer

given,

force = 94 lb

weight of crate = 220 lb

Assuming the static friction be equal = 0.47

                       kinetic friction = 0.36

Maximum force applied to move the object is when object is just start to move.

F = μ N

F = 0.47 x 220

F = 103.4 lb

As the frictional force is more than applied then the object will not move.

so, the friction force will be equal to the force applied on the object that is equal to 94 lb.

hence, the direction of force will left.

10 POINTS!!! Determine the pressure of your book in pascals (Pa). Show your work! (the pressure of the book in psi is 0.03 psi)
Musya8 [376]

You've listed a lot of data here, in both metric and customary units,
and I'm not even sure it's all needed.  Let me try and boil it down:

Pressure on a surface =
               (total force on a surface)
divided by (area of the surface).

The answer to the question is the pressure expressed in pascals.
There's actually enough information here to answer the question
in 2 different ways.  We could ...

-- simply convert (0.03 pound per inch²) to pascals, or
-- go through the whole calculation of force, area, and then their quotient.

To me, converting 0.03 psi to Pa looks easier.

-- 1 pascal = 1 newton / 1 meter²

-- On Earth, 1 kilogram of mass weighs 9.8 Newtons and 2.2 pounds.
From this, we can calculate that

                    2.2 pounds of force = 9.8 newtons of force.

                     1 pound = 4.45 newtons

(0.03 pound/inch²) x (4.45 newton/pound) x (1inch/2.54cm)² x (100cm/1m)² =

 (0.03 x 4.45 x 1² x 100²) / (2.54² x 1²)    newton/meter²  =  206.9 Pa .

A skater rotates with her arms crossed at an angular speed of 8.0 rad/s and she has a moment of inertia of 100 kg/m2. She extend
solong [7]

Answer:

When her hands extends, her momen of inertia is 4.28\ kg-m^2.

Explanation:

Given that,

Initial angular speed, \omega_i=8\ rad/s

Initial moment of inertia, I_1=100\ kg-m^2

Final angular speed, \omega_f=7\ rad/s

Initially, a skater rotates with her arms crossed and finally she extends her arms. The momentum remains conserved. Using the conservation of momentum as :

I_1\omega_1=I_2\omega_2

I_2 is final moment of inertia

I_2=\dfrac{I_1\omega_1}{\omega_2}\\\\I_2=\dfrac{100\times 8}{7}\\\\I_2=114.28\ kg-m^2

So, when her hands extends, her momen of inertia is 4.28\ kg-m^2. Hence, this is the required solution.
