Two molecules have the same molecular geometry but different electron domain geometries. Which combination of atoms and lone pai

rs around the central atom could describe these molecules?
2 atoms and 2 lone pairs; 3 atoms and 0 lone pairs
1 atom and 3 lone pairs; 2 atoms and 1 lone pair
3 atoms and 1 lone pair; 3 atoms and 0 lone pairs

Answer : The correct option is, 2 atoms and 2 lone pairs; 2 atoms and 1 lone pair

Explanation :

In type AB_3, when bond pair of electrons is 2 and lone pair of electrons is 1 then the electron domain geometry is Trigonal planar and molecular geometry is Bent.

In type AB_4, when bond pair of electrons is 2 and lone pair of electrons is 2 then the electron domain geometry is Tetrahedral and molecular geometry is Bent.

Hence, a molecule having 2 atoms and 2 lone pair have the same molecular geometry as that of the molecule having 2 atoms and 1 lone pair.

The table is shown below.

The correct answer is:
2 atoms and 2 lone pairs; 2 atoms and 1 lone pair.
Both AX₂E₂ and AX₂E have different electron domain geometry; AX₂E₂ is tetrahedral and AX₂E is trigonal planar but both of them has the same molecular geometry Bent

What is the effect of thermal energy on the atoms/molecules in a sample of matter?
Anestetic [448]

Answer:

When heat is added to a substance, the molecules and atoms vibrate faster. As atoms vibrate faster, the space between atoms increases. The motion and spacing of the particles determines the state of matter of the substance. The end result of increased molecular motion is that the object expands and takes up more space.

Calculate the number of moles 3.16 g of KMnO4 32.33 g of K2CrO4 100 g of KHCO3
kvasek [131]
The number of moles:
3.16g of KMnO_{4}
1 mole of KMnO_{4}- 158g.
x moles of KMnO_{4}- 3.16g.
x=\frac{1\ mole*3.16g}{158g}=\frac{3.16}{158}=0.02\ mole

The number of moles:
32.33g of K_{2}CrO_{4}
1 mole of K_{2}CrO_{4}- 194g.
x moles of K_{2}CrO_{4}- 32.33g.
x=\frac{1\ mole*32.33g}{194g}=\frac{32.33}{194}=0.17\ mole

The number of moles:
100g of KHCO_{3}
1 mole of KHCO_{3}- 100.1g.
x moles of KHCO_{3}- 100g.
x=\frac{1\ mole*100g}{100.1g}=\frac{100}{100.1}=0.999\ mole

Answer:

C. Theories have been confirmed through tests; hypotheses haven't.

Explanation:

In simple terms,<u> a theory is something that has been studied, tested, and validated with results</u> whereas <u>a hypothesis is when one "guesses" or "assumes" about something with no prior tests</u>. In short, a hypothesis can be best understood as just a proposal while theory can be taken as a validated result.

Through various trials and tests, a theory arrives whereas a hypothesis can be the initial stage of the testing. For example, in saying that "My hypothesis is that this metal cannot bend" is just assuming or expressing one's opinion. But when the metal is tested and a definite result is found, then that becomes a theory.

So, we can say that a theory is a confirmed result after tests while a hypothesis is not tested or confirmed with a definite result.

Thus, the <u>correct answer is option C. </u>
