A man is crossing a river of width 100 m on a motorboat. The velocity of the motor boat is 4 m/s eastward and the velocity of th

e water current is 3 m/s northward.
What is the resultant velocity of the boat and how much time will it take for the man to reach the other shore of the river?

A) The resultant velocity of the motor boat is 5 m/s and it takes 20s to cross the river.

B) The resultant velocity of the motor boat is 25 m/s and it takes 5s to cross the river.

C) The resultant velocity of the motor boat is 6 m/s and it takes 20s to cross the river.

D) The resultant velocity of the motor boat is 4 m/s and it takes 33s to cross the river.

By the Pythagorean theorem we get 3^2+4^2=5^2. Thus the resultant velocity will be 5 m/s.

However there is a typo in the choices. It should take 25 seconds to cross the river, not 20 seconds, since the boat actually travels 125 meters due to the water current, and 125/5 = 25 seconds.

Alternatively  you can calculate the eastward component of travel and get 100 / 4 = 25 seconds.

A gray kangaroo can bound across level ground with each jump carrying it 9.1 m from the takeoff point. Typically the kangaroo le
Alona [7]

Answer:

u = 10.63 m/s

h = 1.10 m

Explanation:

For Take-off speed ..

by using the standard range equation we have

R = u² sin2θ/g

R = 9.1 m

θ = 26º,

Initial velocity = u

solving for u

u² = \frac{Rg}{sin2\theta}

u^2 = \frac{9.1 x 9.80}{sin26}

u^2 = 113.17

u = 10.63 m/s

for Max height

using the standard h(max) equation ..

v^2 = (v_osin\theta)^2 -2gh

h =\frac{(v_o^2sin\theta)^2}{2g}

h  =  \frac{(113.17)(sin26)^2}{(2 x 9.80)}}

h = 1.10 m

Student swings a small rubber stopper attached to a string over her head in a horizontal, circular path. The string is 1.50 mete
harkovskaia [24]

Answer:

v = 18.84 m/s

Explanation:

Given that,

The length of the string, r = 1.5 m (it will act as radius)

The rubber stopper makes 120 complete circles every minute.

Since, 1 minute = 60 seconds

It means, its frequency is 2 circles every second.

Let we need to find the average speed of the rubber stopper. It can be calculated as follows :

v=\dfrac{d}{T}

d is distance, d=2\pi r and 1/T = f (frequency)

v=2\pi rf\\\\=2\pi \times 1.5\times 2\\\\=18.84\ m/s

So, the average speed of the rubber stopper is 18.84 m/s.
