What is the ratio of Sr2+ ions to Br- ions in a neutral compound

Chemistry

Answer: The ratio of Sr^{2+} to Br^{-1} is 1:2.

Explanation: A neutral compound is one which does not bear any charge. Thus to make a compound neutral, the amount of positive charge must be equal to the amount of negative charge.

Thus to balance Sr^{2+}, two molecules of Br^{-1} are required. They combine to form strontium bromide (SrBr_2).

Neutral => positive charge = negative charge

Sr 2+ --> 2 positive charge

Br - --> 1 negative charge => you need two Br

2 Br - --> 2 negative charge

Then, the ratio is 1 Sr2+ ion to 2 Br - ions = 1Sr2+ / 2Br- = 1/2

How many grams of NaCl are required to make 150.0 mL of a 5.000 m solution
Oksi-84 [34.3K]

The grams of NaCl that are required to make 150.0 ml of a 5.000 M solution is 43.875 g

calculation

Step 1:calculate the number of moles

moles =  molarity  x volume  in L

volume  = 150 ml / 1000 = 0.15 L

= 0.15 L  x 5.000  M  = 0.75  moles

Step 2:  calculate mass

mass = moles x molar mass

molar mass  of NaCl = 23 + 35.5 = 58.5 mol /L

mass is therefore =0.75  moles  x 58.5  mol /l =43.875 g

The average rate of disappearance of ozone in the reaction 2o3(g) → 3o2(g) is found to be 7.25×10–3 atm over a certain interval
worty [1.4K]

Answer;

1.0875 x 10-2 atm

Explanation;

2O3(g) → 3O2(g)

rate = -(1/2)∆[O3]/∆t = +(1/3)∆[O2)/∆t

The average rate of disappearance of ozone ... is found to

be 7.25 × 10–3 atm over a certain interval of time.

This means (ignoring time)

∆[O3]/∆t = -7.25 × 10^–3 atm

(it is disappearing, thus the negative sign)

rate = -(1/2)∆[O3]/∆t

rate = -(1/2)*(-7.25 × 10^–3 atm)

      = 3.625 × 10^–3 atm

Now use the other part of the expression:

rate = +(1/3)∆[O2)∆t

3.625 × 10–3 atm = +(1/3)∆[O2)/t

∆[O2)/∆t = (3)*(3.625× 10^–3 atm)

              = 1.0875 x 10-2 atm over the same time interval

How many ml of a 0.50m solution of hno3 solution are needed to make 500 ml of 0.15m hno3
Anna71 [15]

Answer:

150.0 mL.

Explanation:

  • It is known that the no. of millimoles of HNO₃ before dilution = the no. of millimoles of HNO₃ after dilution.

∵ (MV) before dilution = (MV) after dilution.

∴ V before dilution = (MV) after dilution / M before dilution = (0.15 M)(500.0 mL)/(0.50 M) = 150.0 mL.
