What is the ratio of Sr2+ ions to Br- ions in a neutral compound

Chemistry
2 answers:
neonofarm [45]3 years ago
6 0

Answer: The ratio of Sr^{2+} to Br^{-1} is 1:2.

Explanation: A neutral compound is one which does not bear any charge. Thus to make a compound neutral, the amount of positive charge must be equal to the amount of negative charge.

Thus to balance Sr^{2+}, two molecules of Br^{-1}  are required. They combine to form strontium bromide (SrBr_2).

Neutral => positive charge = negative charge

Sr 2+ --> 2 positive charge

Br - --> 1 negative charge => you need two Br

2 Br - --> 2 negative charge

Then, the ratio is 1 Sr2+ ion to 2 Br - ions = 1Sr2+ / 2Br- = 1/2

What is the pH of a 0.0042 M hydrochloric acid solution?
babymother [125]

Answer:

E) 2.38

Explanation:

The pH of any solution , helps to determine the acidic strength of the solution ,

i.e. ,

  • Lower the value of pH , higher is its acidic strength

and ,

  • Higher the value of pH , lower is its acidic strength .

pH is given as the negative log of the concentration of H⁺ ions ,

hence ,

pH = - log H⁺

From the question ,

the concentration of the solution is 0.0042 M , and being it a strong acid , dissociates completely to its respective ions ,

Therefore , the concentration of H⁺ = 0.0042 M .

Hence , using the above equation , the value of pH can be calculated as follows -

pH = - log H⁺

pH = - log ( 0.0042 M )

pH =  2.38 .

The electron configuration belonging to the atom with the highest second ionization energy is ________.
Gemiola [76]

Answer:

Element Lithium

Explanation:

The element with the highest second ionization energy is lithium. It belongs to the alkaline metal group I.e group one metals

It has the highest second ionization energy because it is very difficult to remove the electron from the 1s orbital.

Its atomic number is 3. The electronic configuration is 1s2 2S1

What is the oxidation state of each individual carbon atom in c2o42−?
MA_775_DIABLO [31]

Answer:

+3

Explanation:

The oxygen all have a -2 oxidation state. (peroxides are exceptions)

The chemical structure is symmetrical. Both carbon are equivalent.

2 (oxidation state of carbon) + 4 (oxidation state of oxygen) = charge of ion.

2 (oxidation state of carbon) + 4 (-2) = -2

oxidation state of carbon = +3
