Multiplication of two polynomials \left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \text { and }(x-4) \text { is } 3 x^{3}-8 x^{2}-12 x-16

<u>Solution:</u>

Need to multiply following polynomial

\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right)(x-4)

\text { Lets for sake of simplicity }\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right)=\mathrm{A}

\text { So }\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times(x-4)=\mathrm{A} \times(x-4)=\mathrm{A} \times(x)-\mathrm{A} \times 4

\text { Now again substitute value of } \mathrm{A} \text { as }\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right)

=>\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times(x-4)=\left[\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times(x)\right]-\left[\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times 4\right]

On opening the internal brackets we get,

\begin{array}{l}{\Rightarrow\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times (x-4)=\left[3 x^{3}+4 x^{2}+4 x\right]-\left[12 x^{2}+16 x+16\right]} \\\\ {\Rightarrow\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times (x-4)=3 x^{3}+4 x^{2}+4 x-12 x^{2}-16 x-16}\end{array}

On bringing similar terms together, we get

\begin{array}{l}{=>\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times (x-4)=3 x^{3}+4 x^{2}-12 x^{2}+4 x-16 x-16} \\ {=>\left(3 x^{2}+4 x+4\right) \times (x-4)=3 x^{3}-8 x^{2}-12x-16}\end{array}

Hence the product is found out

Maeve’s family recipe for macaroni and cheese makes 4 servings of 310 calories each. Maeve decided to make 1 1/2 times the amoun
ser-zykov [4K]

Answer:

1,860 calories

Step-by-step explanation:

You start with 4 servings of macaroni and cheese with 310 calories per serving. She made 1 1/2 times more of the 4 servings. 1 1/2 as a decimal is 1.5, and 1.5 times 4 is 6. With 310 calories per serving you get the problem 6 x 310 which equals 1,860. Therefore, there are 1,860 calories in Maeve's mac n' cheese

Bill went to the museum at 11:30 A.M . He stayed for 3 1/2 hours.When did he leave ?
tatuchka [14]
To start, note that an hour is 60 minutes long. A 1/2 hour, or half hour, is then 60/2=30 minutes. Therefore, when we have 11 hours and 30 minutes, we have 11 and a half hours. Adding 3 and a half to that, we get 11.5+3.5=15 (a half can also be expressed as .5, although it's not typically done that way when expressing time - it just might be easier to visualize it this way). Therefore, we are 15 hours into the day. However, we can't just stop there - we have to account for AM and PM. Therefore, we subtract 12 hours from 15. If the number is positive, we are in PM - otherwise, we're in AM. Therefore, as 15-12=3, the time is in PM. The remaining number is the time, so Bill leaves at 3 PM. If we are left with a decimal (e.g. 3.25), we would keep the 3 and multiply the 0.25 (the decimal) by 60 to figure out how many minutes we have, so 3.25 would turn into 3+0.25*60=3:15.
