In the compound nh3, nitrogen has an oxidation number of 3+ and hydrogen has an oxidation number of -1
The molecule NH3 have a neutral charge so the number of oxidation number of it's component must be equal to zero. The molecule NH composed of 1 nitrogen and 3 hydrogens. If the nitrogen oxidation number is 3+, then hydrogen would be:

1* N + 3*H=0
1*+3  +3*H=0
3H= -3
H= -1

Explanation:

Since nitrogen is more electronegative than hydrogen therefore, it attracts the electron of hydrogen atom towards itself. Hence, the hydrogen atom acquires a negative charge in a molecule of ammonia (NH_{3}).

So, let the oxidation number of hydrogen in NH_{3} is x.

Therefore, calculate the oxidation number of hydrogen as follows.

Oxidation number of nitrogen + 3 \times oxidation number of hydrogen = charge on the molecule

                   3 + 3x = 0

                       x = \frac{-3}{3}

                          = -1

Thus, we can conclude that in the compound NH_{3}, nitrogen has an oxidation number of 3+ and hydrogen has an oxidation number of -1.

Why do electrons gain energy?
Novay_Z [31]

Electrons can gain the energy it needs by absorbing light. If the electron jumps from the second energy level down to the first energy level, it must give off some energy by emitting light. The atom absorbs or emits light in discrete packets called photons, and each photon has a definite energy.

Calculate the standard potential, e∘, for this reaction from its equilibrium constant at 298 k. x(s)+y4+(aq)↽−−⇀x4+(aq)+y(s)k=4.
laila [671]
First, we need to get the number of moles:

from the reaction equation when Y4+ takes 4 electrons and became Y, X loses 4 electrons and became X4+

∴ the number of moles n = 4

we are going to use this formula:

㏑K = n *F *E/RT

when K is the equilibrium constant = 4.98 x 10^-5

and F is Faraday's constant = 96500

and the constant R = 8.314

and T is the temperature in Kelvin = 298 K

and n is number of moles of electrons = 4

so, by substitution:

㏑4.98 x 10^-5 = 4*96500*E / 8.314*298

∴E = -0.064 V

1. Describe the correlation between acid concentration and reaction rate and use ideas about particles to explain the correlatio
Nostrana [21]

Explanation:

an increase in concentration increases the rate of the reaction. This is because there are more reactant particles available which allows for more effective collisions between reactant particles in a given period of time. More effective collisions bring about a faster rate of reaction.

rodikova [14]

Answer:

I believe it may be-

1. Series

2. Parallel

3. Parallel

4. Series

Explanation:

In a series circuit, electricity only has one path to follow while a parallel circuit has more than one path to follow.
