You and a friend frequently play a trombone duet in a jazz band. During such performances it is critical that the two instrument

s be perfectly tuned. Since you take better care of your trombone, you decide to use your instrument as the standard. When you produce a tone that is known to be 470 Hz and your friend attempts to play the same note, you hear 4 beats every 3.00 seconds. Your ear is good enough to detect that your trombone is at a higher frequency. Determine the frequency of your friend's trombone. (Enter your answer to at least 1 decimal place.)

Answer:

f₂ = 468.67 Hz

Explanation:

A beat is a sudden increase and decrease of sound. The beats are produced through the interference of two sound waves of slightly different frequencies. Now we have the following data:

The higher frequency tone = f₁ = 470 Hz

No. of beats = n = 4 beats

Time period = t = 3 s

The lower frequency note = Frequency of Friend's Trombone = f₂ = ?

Beat Frequency = fb

So, the formula for beats per second or beat frequency is given as:

fb = n/t

fb = 4 beats/ 3 s

fb = 1.33 Hz

Another formula for beat frequency is:

fb = f₁ - f₂

f₂ =  f₁ - fb

f₂ = 470 Hz - 1.33 Hz

<u>f₂ = 468.67 Hz</u>

Nuclear fusion has not yet been harnessed as an energy source because
maksim [4K]

Before getting an answer for it first we have to understand nuclear fusion.

Nuclear fusion is a thermo-nuclear reaction in which two  light unstable nuclei will form a heavy stable nuclei. In this process there will be some mass defect which will be converted into energy as per Einstein's mass energy equivalence theorem.

The theorem is stated as E = mc^{2} where c is the velocity of light and m is the mass converted into energy.

One take an example of fusion in sun where 4 hydrogen atoms combine to form a helium nucleus which are explained below-

                                                      H_{1}^{1}+H_{1} ^{1} =H_{1} ^{2} +e_{+1} ^{0} +energy

                                                      H_{1} ^{2} +H_{1} ^{1} =He_{2} ^{3} +energy

                                                      He_{2} ^{3}+H_{1} ^{1} =He_{2} ^{4} +e_{+1} ^{0} +energy

                                                       -----------------------------------------------------------------------

                                                        4H_{1} ^{1} = He_{2} ^{4} +2e_{+1} ^{0} +energy

Here e_{+1} ^{0} is the positron.

In this process very high temperature is needed which is approximately equal to the temperature of the sun i.e 10^{6} K

Such temperature is very difficult to initiate the reaction on the earth surface. It should be carried out in an sustainable way also .Otherwise It will cause nuclear hazards.

A horizontal force of magnitude 30.2 N pushes a block of mass 3.50 kg across a floor where the coefficient of kinetic friction i
marshall27 [118]

Answer:

A) 89.39 J

B) 30.39J

C) 23.8 J

Explanation:

We are given;

F = 30.2N

m = 3.5 kg

μ_k = 0.646

d = 2.96m

ΔEth (Block) = 35.2J

A) Work done by the applied force on the block-floor system is given as;

W = F•d

Thus, W = 30.2 x 2.96 = 89.39 J

B) Total thermal energy dissipated by the whole system which includes the floor and the block is given as;

ΔEth = μ_k•mgd

Thus, ΔEth = 0.646 x 3.5 x 9.8 x 2.96 = 65.59J

Now, we are given the thermal energy of the block which is ΔEth (Block) = 35.2J.

Thus,

ΔEth = ΔEth (Block) + ΔEth (floor)

Thus,

ΔEth (floor) = ΔEth - ΔEth (Block)

ΔEth (floor) = 65.59J - 35.2J = 30.39J

C) The total work done is considered as the sum of the thermal energy dissipated as heat and the kinetic energy of the block. Thus;

W = K + ΔEth

Therefore;

K = W - ΔEth

K = 89.39 - 65.59 = 23.8J

A 35-gram stainless steel ball on a track is moving at a velocity of 9 m/s. On the same track, a 75-gram stainless steel ball is
elena-s [515]

Answer:

4.2 m/s

Explanation:

Momentum is conserved.

m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂

(35 g) (9 m/s) + (75 g) (-7 m/s) = (35 g) (-15 m/s) + (75 g) v

315 g m/s − 525 g m/s = -525 g m/s + (75 g) v

315 g m/s = (75 g) v

v = 4.2 m/s
