Methyl orange shows red color in acidic medium and yellow color in basic medium. Because it changes color at the pKa of a mid strength acid, it is usually used in titration for acids. Unlike a universal indicator, methyl orange does not have a full spectrum of color change, but it has a sharp end point.

A student needs to make 0.855 L of a sodium bromide solution for an experiment. The concentration of the required solution is 0.
d1i1m1o1n [39]

Answer:

Explanation:

Molarity =  moles/liters of solution

moles    = molarity x Liters of solution

            =  0.350 m/L x 0.855 L

            =  0.299 mol

mass = moles  x  molar mass

            = 0.299 mol x 102.89 g/ms

            =  30.78 grams

Which of the following groups of elements are likely to have substances that have both metal and non-metallic properties?
Tom [10]

Answer : Group 14 elements are likely to have substances that have both metal and non-metallic properties.

Explanation :

Metalloid : It is a type of element whose properties lies in between the metals and non-metals.

There are commonly six metalloids : Boron(group 13), Silicon & Germanium(group 14), Arsenic & Antimony(group 15), Tellurium(group 16).

Properties of Metalloids :

  • Metalloids look like metals but behave largely like non-metals.
  • Metalloids are solid, brittle and lustrous.
  • Metalloids has ability to conduct electricity.

Therefore, Group 14 elements are likely to have substances that have both metal and non-metallic properties.

Describe how the properties of the compound carbon monoxide (CO) differ from the properties of the
ElenaW [278]

Explanation:

There is a clear cut difference between a compound and an element:

  • A compound is made up of substances composed of two or more kinds of atoms or elements joined together in a definite grouping.
  • An element is a distinct substance that cannot be split-up into simpler substances. These substances are only made up of one kind of atom.

Compounds are formed so that unstable elements can attain stability.

Carbon monoxide is made up two elements: Carbon and oxygen that have combined chemically together.

  • Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas and it is different from oxygen atom and carbon atom.
  • Carbon is a solid but carbon monoxide is a gas.
  • Oxygen atom does not exists on its own but it exists as Oxygen gas O₂
  • The properties of carbon monoxide clearly differ from that of oxygen and carbon.
