Classify methanal according to the position of the c=o group
seraphim [82]

Answer :  Methanal also known as Formaldehyde CH_{2}O is a chemical Aldehyde which contain ( -CHO) group.

Explanation :

In organic chemistry, a carbonyl group is a functional group which contain a carbon atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom i.e, ( C=O).

     If carbonyl group is present in a compound then it can be a carboxylic (RCOOH), aldehyde (RCHO), ketone (RCOR'), ester ((RCOOR') or amide (RCONR'R") group.

Here are some functional groups naming according to the<em> IUPAC</em> rules and image also attached,

Carboxylic acid   →    (RCOOH)    →    ( name end in 'OIC ACID' )

Aldehyde             →    (RCOH)       →    ( name end in 'AL' )

Ketone                 →    (RCOR')       →    ( name end in 'ONE' )

Ester                     →    (RCOOR')    →    ( name end in 'ATE' )

Amide                   →    (RCONR'R") →    ( name end in 'AMIDE' )

In an aldehyde, atleast one hydrogen atom must be attached to the carbonyl carbon. For an aldehyde, remove ( -e) from alkane name and add ( -al) at the end of the compound.

Methanal is the IUPAC name for Formaldehyde.

skelet666 [1.2K]

Answer:

Part 1. When the balloon is filled half of the way, and placed into the freezer, it will shrink. This happens because kinetic molecular theory tells us that a decrease in temperature decreases the kinetic energy of the gas molecules in the balloon. Viscous gases like hydrogen are less likely to shrink.

Part 2. When the balloon is placed out in the hot sun, most likely the balloon will swell and grow. This happens because the kinetic energy of the gas molecules increases due to solar radiation transforming into heat energy and then transforming into kinetic energy. Sticky gases like neon are more likely to grow.

In two or more complete sentences explain how to balance the chemical equation and classify its reaction type.
Artemon [7]
<h3>Answer:</h3>

#1. Balanced equation: 2C₅H₅ + Fe → Fe(C₅H₅)₂

#2. Type of reaction: Synthesis reaction

<h3>Explanation:</h3>
  • Balanced equations are equations that obey the law of conservation of mass.
  • When an equation is balanced the number of atoms of each element is equal on both side of the equation.
  • Equations are balanced by putting appropriate coefficients on the reactants and products.
  • In our case, we are going to put coefficients 2, 1 and 1.
  • Thus, the balanced equation will be;

2C₅H₅ + Fe → Fe(C₅H₅)₂

  • This type of a reaction is known as synthesis reaction, in which two or more reactants or compounds combine to form a single compound or product.

For each of the following sublevels, give the n and l values and the number of orbitals: (a) 5s; (b) 3p; (c) 4f
OverLord2011 [107]

Answer:

(a) 5s. n = 5. Sublevel s, l = 0. Number of orbitals = 1

(b) 3p. n = 3. Sublevel p, l = 1. Number of orbitals = 3

(c) 4f. n =4. Sublevel f, l = 3. Number of orbitals = 7

Explanation:

The rules for electron quantum numbers are:

1. Shell number, 1 ≤ n

2. Sublevel number, 0 ≤ l ≤ n − 1

So,

(a) 5s. n = 5, shell number 5. Sublevel s, l = 0. Number of orbitals = 2l +1 = 1

(b) 3p. n = 3, shell number 3. Sublevel p, l = 1. Number of orbitals = 2l +1 = 3

(c) 4f. n =4, shell number 4. Sublevel f, l = 3. Number of orbitals =  2l +1 = 7

You have 100 mL of a solution of benzoic acid in water; the amount of benzoic acid in the solution is estimated to be about 0.30
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

0.00370 g

Explanation:

From the given information:

To determine the amount of acid remaining using the formula:\dfrac{(final \ mass \ of \ solute)_{water}}{(initial \ mass \ of \ solute )_{water}} = (\dfrac{v_2}{v_1+v_2\times k_d})^n

where;

v_1 = volume of organic solvent = 20-mL

n = numbers of extractions = 4

v_2 = actual volume of water = 100-mL

k_d = distribution coefficient = 10

∴

\dfrac{(final \ mass \ of \ solute)_{water}}{0.30  \ g} = (\dfrac{100 \ ml}{100 \ ml +20 \ ml \times 10})^4

\dfrac{(final \ mass \ of \ solute)_{water}}{0.30  \ g} = (\dfrac{100 \ ml}{100 \ ml +200 \ ml})^4

\dfrac{(final \ mass \ of \ solute)_{water}}{0.30  \ g} = (\dfrac{1}{3})^4

\dfrac{(final \ mass \ of \ solute)_{water}}{0.30  \ g} = 0.012345

Thus, the final amount of acid left in the water = 0.012345 * 0.30

= 0.00370 g
