A Lewis structure is a two-dimensional representation of a molecule that does not necessarily show what shape that molecule woul

d take in three dimensions. From the given Lewis structure and what you know about VSEPR theory, identify the shape of the molecule. A molecule with atom Y single bonded with 2 X substituents. The Y atom has two lone pairs.

Answer:

Orbital geometry is Tetrahedral

Molecular geometry is Bent/V shape

Explanation:

Using the VSEPR theory which states that

  • The shape of a molecule depends upon the number of valence shell electron pairs  (bonded or nonbonded) around the central atom.
  • Pairs of electrons in the valence shell repel  one another since their electron clouds are negatively charged.
  • These pairs of electrons tend to occupy such positions in space that minimize  repulsion and thus maximize distance between them.
  • The valence shell is taken as a sphere with  the electron pairs localizing on the  spherical surface at maximum distance  from one another.
  • A multiple bond is treated as if it is a single  electron pair and the two or three electron  pairs of a multiple bond are treated as a single super pair.
  • Where two or more resonance structures  can represent a molecule, the VSEPR  model is applicable to any such structure

so we have Y as the central atom and it has 2X substituents on its either sides with two lone pairs on Y. This is a case of Y which has

2 bonds with X on either sides

2 lone pairs on Y

The orbital geometry will be Tetrahedral but its Molecular geometry will be Bent/V shaped

The formula of the compound will be YX2

Which of the following is the major argument against the use of nuclear power to generate electricity?
svet-max [94.6K]
The mechanics of a power plant that generally uses nuclear energy in order to generate electricity lies in the principle of nuclear fission between radioactive atoms. In addition, among its major arguments on why it is still a matter of ethical issue is because of the intensive maintenance it requires for the disposal of its radioactive wastes.

Which organisms are producers in a temperate coniferous forest? (Select all that apply.)
Tju [1.3M]

Answer:Coniferous trees, like pine, spruce, and fir, are the main producers in the forest. Their pine needles fall to the forest floor, creating a spongy mat for other life to inhabit. Low lying shrubs and moss are other producers in this ecosystem. Producers in the coniferous forest.

Elden [556K]

Answer:

The final volume is 1.1 L.

Explanation:

Given data:

Initial pressure of gas = 125 KPa

Final pressure of gas = 375 KPa

Initial volume = 3.3 L

Final volume = ?

Solution:

The given problem will be solved through the Boly's law,

"The volume of given amount of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure by keeping the temperature and number of moles constant"

Mathematical expression:

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

P₁ = Initial pressure

V₁ = initial volume

P₂ = final pressure

V₂ = final volume

Now we will put the values in formula,

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

125 Kpa × 3.3 L = 375 Kpa × V₂

V₂ = 412.5 KPa. L/375 Kpa

V₂ = 1.1 L

The volume of gas is reduced to the 1.1 L because of increasing pressure.

What is the molecule shown below?
arsen [322]

Answer:

2,3 -Dimethyl pentane

Explanation:

The given molecule is 2,3-Dimethyl pentane.

First of all select the longest chain of C-C atom. This will be the parent name.

In given structure the longest chain is straight chain that contain five carbon. Thus the parent name will pentane and there is no double or triple bond the given structure is of alkane.

Than locate the positions of functional groups attached.

In given structure there are two methyl groups are present. Give the name in such a way that functional groups will have lowest number. In given case we will start from the left.

The first methyl group will have number 2 and second will have number 3.

The name will be,

2,3-Dimethyl pentane
