The atomic weight of boron is reported as 10.81, yet no atom of boron has the mass of 10.81 amu. explain
aivan3 [116]
Boron has a lot of different isotopes, most of which having a very short half life (ranging from 770 milliseconds for Boron-8 down to 150 yoctoseconds for boron-7). But the two isotopes Boron-10 and Boron-11 are stable with about 80.1% of the naturally occurring boron being boron-11 and the remaining 19.9% being boron-10. The weighted average weight of those 2 isotopes has the value of 10.81. The reason they use the average mass of an element for it's atomic weight is because elements in nature are rarely single isotopes. The weighted average allows us to easily compare relative number of atoms of one element against relative numbers of atoms of another element assuming that the experimenters are getting isotope ratios close to their natural ratios.

Copper has a density of 8.96 g/cm3. If a thin sheet of copper measures 5.5 cm by 5.5 cm and has a mass of 12.96 g, what is its t
balandron [24]

Thickness of cooper sheet is 0.048 cm (Approx.)

Given that;

Density of copper = 8.96 g/cm³

Measures of copper sheet = 5.5 cm × 5.5 cm

Mass of of copper sheet = 12.96 gram

Find:

Thickness of cooper sheet

Computation:

Volume = Mass / Density

Volume of cooper = 12.96 / 8.96

Volume of cooper = 1.4464

Volume of cooper = 1.45 cm³ (Approx.)

Volume of cooper sheet = 5.5 cm × 5.5 cm x Thickness

5.5 cm × 5.5 cm x Thickness = 1.45

Thickness of cooper sheet = 0.04793

Thickness of cooper sheet = 0.048 cm (Approx.)

Why does poop turn blue after you bleach it
Llana [10]

Enzymes and activators in the poop might cause the bleach to decompose quickly, releasing chlorine gas. Otherwise, it would have the effect making your toilet smell like a swimming pool, which might be a worthwhile improvement.
