1.00 liter solution contains 0.31 M acetic acid and 0.40 M sodium acetate. If 0.100 moles of calcium hydroxide are added to this

system, indicate whether the following statements are true or false. (Assume that the volume does not change upon the addition of calcium hydroxide.)
_______ A. The number of moles of CH3COOH will decrease.
_______ B. The number of moles of CH3COO- will decrease.
_______ C. The equilibrium concentration of H3O will decrease.
_______ D. The pH will decrease.
_______ E. The ratio of [CH3COOH] / [CH3COO-] will remain the same.

Answer:

The answer is the explanation.

Explanation:

The acetic acid, CH3COOH, reacts with calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2, producing acetate ion, CH3COO- and water as follows:

2CH3COOH + Ca(OH)2 → 2CH3COO- + 2H2O + Ca²⁺

That means the moles of acetic acid decrease whereas the moles of  acetate ion are increased. The ratio of [CH3COOH] / [CH3COO-] is different.

As a base is added, the concentration of H3O+ decreases increasing the pH.

That means:

<em>TRUE </em> A. The number of moles of CH3COOH will decrease.

<em>FALSE</em> B. The number of moles of CH3COO- will decrease.

<em>TRUE </em>C. The equilibrium concentration of H3O will decrease.

<em>FALSE </em>D. The pH will decrease.

<em>FALSE</em> E. The ratio of [CH3COOH] / [CH3COO-] will remain the same.

An aqueous solution contains 0.25 M nitrous acid. One Liter of this solution could be converted into a buffer by the addition of
iren [92.7K]

Answer:

0.26 mol KNO₂

Explanation:

A buffer is defined as the mixture of a weak acid with its conjugate base or vice versa.

Nitrous acid (HNO₂) is a weak acid with pka of 3.3. Its conjugate base is NO₂⁻. KNO₂ in solution produce K⁺ + NO₂⁻. That means right answer is:

0.26 mol KNO₂.

I hope it helps!

The formula for density is the mass of an object divided by its volume. In equation form, that's d = m/v , where d is the density, m is the mass and v is the volume of the object. The standard units are kg/m³.

Gre4nikov [31]
I believe the answer is A. <span>make a softer sound because the shark will not hear the softer signal.
</span><span>
I say this becasue "</span><span>Some of the sounds dolphins make are outside the range of human hearing." So that means the the dolphins speak at a higher wavelength then us humans and we can't hear it so they could use that to their advantage and speak at a height wavelength to each other when sharks are near.

I could be wrong, but I think the answer is A. </span>

What volume in mL of a 2.9M solution is needed in order to prepare 2.3L of a 1.1M solution?
sladkih [1.3K]
As i am reading the question, I notice they give two concentrations (M), one volume (L), and they are asking for another volume. this is a hint that you need to use the following formula

C1V1 = C2V2                (note: C stands for concentration)

C1= 2.9 M
V1= ?
C2= 1.1 M
V2= 2.3 L

now let's plug in the numbers

( 2.9 x V1)= (1.1 X 2.3)

V1= 0.87 Liters
