If a fair die is rolled 3 times, what is the probability, to the nearest thousandth, of getting exactly 2 fives?

Mathematics

Alexxandr [17]3 years ago
5 0

Answer:

The answer is .578 you just do 5/6 due to the fact that there are 6 sides on a die and 1 side is a 2 so if you don’t get a two there is 5 sides left so you do 5/6 to the power of 3 leaving you with .578 and some

I need help with these two
Dmitrij [34]

19.

A) 84 : 120 --) 7 : 10, I came up with it by knowing x, # of times ordered,

7(x) : 3(x) sum will be 120 and guessed from there.

B) Well I came up with it trying to get the ratio for A, 84 smoothies.

C) 84 ( smoothies) - 36 ( juice drinks)

20.

A) Ok you first have the birds from the first hour which sum up to 24. Then to calculate what of how many birds you saw for the second hour you use the ratio 2 (cardinals) : 3 ( chickadees) : 3 ( pigeons). Now before you use the ratio you need to know how many birds out of the 36 have not been seen in the first hour so just subtract 36 - 24 = 12. Next you figure out what number you can multiply every bird against to get a sum of 12 birds in total. I figured out it's 1.5 as a multiplier. I know physically it's not possible, but I did all the steps correct and apparently they don't care it's not realistic. I hope this helps you on the homework sheet.

When two computers are working together, they can finish updating software in 9 minutes. How long would they take individually t
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]
First computer takes x min. For 1 min it does 1/x part of work.

Second computer takes (x+24) min. For one min it does 1/(x+24) part of work.

Both computers for one min do   (1/x+1/(x+24)) part of work.

At the same time, both computers for one min do 1/9 part of work.

\frac{1}{x} + \frac{1}{x+24} = \frac{1}{9} &#10;\\ \\  \frac{x+24+x}{x(x+24)} =  \frac{1}{9} &#10;\\ \\9(2x+24)=x^{2} +24x&#10;\\ \\ 18x+216=x^{2} +24x&#10;\\ \\ x^{2}+6x-216=0&#10;\\ \\ D=b^{2}-4ac=36+4*216 = 900&#10;\\ \\ x= \frac{-b+/- \sqrt{D} }{2a}  =  \frac{-6+/-30}{2} &#10;\\ \\ x_{1}=-18, x_{2}=12&#10;&#10;We can use only positive number here. So, &#10;&#10;for the first computer x=12 min,&#10;&#10; for second computer x+24=12+24= 36 min&#10;&#10;Answer 12 min and 36 min.

The five circles making up this archery target have diameters of length $2,4,6,8,$ and $10$. What is the total red area?
Sliva [168]

Answer:

A=15\pi\ units^2

Step-by-step explanation:

<u><em>The picture of the question in the attached figure</em></u>

we know that

It is given that the diameter of 5 circles making up the archery is 2,4,6,8, and 10.

To determine the total red area, we use the formula for area of the circle

A=\pi r^{2}

step 1

Find the Area of the 1st red circle

r=2/2=1\ unit ---> the radius is half the diameter

A_1=\pi (1)^{2}=\pi\ units^2

step 2

Find the Area of the 2nd white circle

r=4/2=2\ units ---> the radius is half the diameter

A_2=\pi (2)^{2}=4\pi\ units^2

step 3

Find the Area of the 3rd red circle

r=6/2=3\ units ---> the radius is half the diameter

A_3=\pi (3)^{2}=9\pi\ units^2

step 4

Find the Area of the 4th white circle

r=8/2=4\ units ---> the radius is half the diameter

A_4=\pi (4)^{2}=16\pi\ units^2

step 5

Find the Area of the 5th red circle

r=10/2=5\ units ---> the radius is half the diameter

A_5=\pi (5)^{2}=25\pi\ units^2

The total red area is given by

A=A_5-A_4+A_3-A_2+A_1

substitute

A=25\pi-16\pi+9\pi-4\pi+\pi

A=15\pi\ units^2
