A graduated beaker with 375 mL of water is sitting on a scale which measures the weight of the glass and water to be 7.60 N. Whe

n a rock is put into the glass, the volume level of the water changes to 450 mL and the scale reading changes to 9.22 N. What is the specific gravity of the rock

Answer:

Volume of water displaced = 450 - 375 = 75 ml

Vr = volume of rock = 75 ml

Wr = 9.22 - 7.60 = 1.62 N  weight of 75 ml of rock

Density of rock = 1.62 N / 75 ml = .0216 N / ml

Density of water = 1000 g / 1000 ml = 9.8 N / 1000 ml = .0098 N / ml

Density of rock / density of water = .0216 / .0098 = 2.20

Which answer explains why plate B is moving underneath plate A
blsea [12.9K]

Answer:

A.

Explanation:

Earth is composed of different layers and one layer moves over another due to differences in the densities.

According to the physics of density, a substance having less density floats over a higher density substance. The oceanic crust has more density than the continental crust that is why continental crust float over oceanic crust.

So in the given example, plate B is moving below the plate A, it means plate B is more dense than plate A because plate B is composed of oceanic crust . <u>For example : continents float over the asthenosphere (a layer below the lithosphere).</u>

Hence, the correct answer is "A ".

By what factors does the speed of the elctron exceed that of the proton?<br>
____ [38]

Answer:

» An electron is lighter than a proton.

<u>explanation</u><u>:</u>

{  =  \: \sf{an \: electron \: has \: formula \:  \: }}{ \bf{ {}^{0}_{  - 1}e }}

hence it's mass number is zero

{  =  \: \sf{an \: electron \: is \: helium \: particle \:  \: }}{ \bf{ {}^{4} _{2}He  }}

hence it's mass number is 4

<u>Therefore</u><u>,</u><u> </u><u>proton</u><u> </u><u>is</u><u> </u><u>heavier</u><u> </u><u>than</u><u> </u><u>electron</u>

» An electron has a small charge magnitude than a proton.

<u>Explanation</u><u>:</u>

An electron has charge of -1 while proton has charge of +2, therefore electron is less deflected by any energetic fields than a proton

Answer:

the acceleration during the collision is: - 5  \frac{m}{s^2}

Explanation:

Using the formula:

a=\frac{\Delta\,v}{\Delta\,t}

we get:

a=\frac{-0.4-0.6}{0.2} \,\frac{m}{s^2} =\frac{-1}{0.2} \,\frac{m}{s^2} =-5\,\,\frac{m}{s^2}

A copper wire has a radius of 2.9 mm. When forces of a certain equal magnitude but opposite directions are applied to the ends o
REY [17]

Answer:

550000000N/m

Explanation:

Given that a copper wire has a radius of 2.9 mm. When forces of a certain equal magnitude but opposite directions are applied to the ends of the wire, the wire stretches by 5.0×10−3 of its original length.

Original length L = 0.005L

the strain = extension/ original length

the strain = 0.005L / L

the strain = 0.005

Young modulus = stress / strain

11 × 10^10 = stress / 0.005

Cross multiply

Stress = 11 × 10^10 × 0.005

Stress = 550 000000 N/m

Therefore, the tensile stress on the wire is 550000000 N/m.
