Because in SI, the expectation is that area and volume will be expressed in terms of a linear dimension( the metre) or its multiples.
The volume of gas that exerts a pressure of 457 mmhg if exerted a pressure of 2.50 atm when its volume was 25.0ml is calculated as follows
by use of Bolyes law formula that is P1V1=P2V2
P1= 457mmhg
V1=?
P1 = 2.50 atm = 2.50 x760 = 1900mmhg
V2= 25,0 ml
V1 from the formula above = P2V2/P1
= 1900mm hg x25 ml/ 457 mm hg = 104 ml
