Answer:

Mass = 2.89 g

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of NH₄Cl = 8.939 g

Mass of Ca(OH)₂ = 7.48 g

Mass of ammonia produced = ?

Solution:

2NH₄Cl   +  Ca(OH)₂     →    CaCl₂ + 2NH₃ + 2H₂O

Number of moles of NH₄Cl:

Number of moles = mass/molar mass

Number of moles = 8.939 g / 53.5 g/mol

Number of moles = 0.17 mol

Number of moles of Ca(OH)₂ :

Number of moles = mass/molar mass

Number of moles = 7.48 g / 74.1 g/mol

Number of moles = 0.10 mol

Now we will compare the moles of ammonia with both reactant.

                      NH₄Cl          :          NH₃

                          2              :           2

                         0.17          :          0.17

                   Ca(OH)₂         :          NH₃

                        1                :           2

                    0.10              :          2/1×0.10 = 0.2 mol

Less number of moles of ammonia are produced by ammonium chloride it will act as limiting reactant.

Mass of ammonia:

Mass = number of moles × molar mass

Mass = 0.17 mol × 17 g/mol

Mass = 2.89 g

A gas at 29.4 kPa is cooled from a temperature of 75°C to a temperature of 25°C at constant volume. What is the new pressure of
kirill115 [55]

To solve this we assume that the gas inside the balloon is an ideal gas. Then, we can use the ideal gas equation which is expressed as PV = nRT. At a constant volume pressure and number of moles of the gas the ratio of T and P is equal to some constant. At another set of condition, the constant is still the same. Calculations are as follows:

T1/P1 = T2/P2

P2 = T2 x P1 / T1

P2 = 25 x 29.4 / 75

P2 = 9.8 kPa

In a study designed to prepare new gasoline-resistant coatings, a polymer chemist dissolves 6.143 g poly(vinyl alcohol) in enoug
Ghella [55]

Answer:

MM = 5,521.54 g/mol

Explanation:

To solve this, we need to use the expression for osmotic pressure which is the following:

π = MRT (1)

Where:

M: Concentration of the solution

R: gas constant (0.082 L atm/ mol K

T: temperature in K

25 °C in Kelvin is: 25 + 273.15 = 298.15 K

Now, we do not have the concentration of the solution, but we do have the mass. and the concentration can be expressed in terms of mass, molar mass and volume:

Concentration (M) is:

M = n/V (2)

and n (moles) is:

n = m/MM (3)

Therefore, if we replace (2) and (3) in (1) we have:

π = mRT/V*MM

Solving for MM we have:

MM = mRT/πV (4)

All we have to do now, is replace the given data and we should get the value of the molar mass:

MM = 6.143 * 0.082 * 298.15 / 0.1 * 0.272

MM = 150.1859 / 0.0272

MM = 5,521.54 g/mol

This is the molar mass.

If the density of a certain alcohol is 0.785 g/mL, what volume of the alcohol would have a mass of 75.0 g
Gemiola [76]

Answer:

95.54mL

Explanation:

To calculate the volume that would have that mass, what is needed to be done is to use the formula that relates mass, density and volume.

Mathematically,

mass = density * Volume

But in this particular question we are to calculate the volume, we already have the mass and the density.

Rearranging the equation gives the following:

volume = mass/density

Our mass here is 75.0g while our density is 0.785g/mL

Hence, volume = 75/0.785 = 95.54mL
