Answer:

Actual COP = 5.368

Maximum theoretical COP = 6.368

Explanation:

Given - An ideal vapor compression refrigeration cycle operates with a condenser pressure of 900 kPa. The temperature at the inlet to the compressor is -5oC.

To find -  If this device operates using R134a as the working fluid. Calculate the actual COP of this device as well as the maximum theoretical COP.

Proof -

Given that,

An ideal vapor compression refrigeration cycle operates with a condenser pressure of 900 kPa.

From Refrigerant 134-a Table

At T1 = -5°C

h1 = 247.505 KJ/kg

S1 = 0.93434 KJ/kg

At P2 = 900 KPa

S1 = S2

h2 = 274.679 Kj/Kg

h3 = h4 = 101.61 KJ/g

So,

Compressor work (Wc) = h2 - h1

                                       = 274.679 - 247.505

                                       = 27.174

⇒Compressor work (Wc) = 27.174 KJ/kg

Now,

Heat out (Qout) = h2 - h3

                          = 274.679 - 101.61

                          = 173.069

⇒Heat out (Qout) = 173.069 KJ/kg

Now,

Heat input (Qin) = h1 - h4

                          = 274.505 - 101.61

                          = 145.895

⇒Heat input (Qin) = 145.895 KJ/kg

So,

Actual COP at the refrigerator is -

(COP)R = (Qin)/(Wc)

            = (145.895)/ (27.174)

            = 5.368

⇒Actual COP = 5.368

Now,

Maximum theoretical COP is -

(COP) = (Qout)/(Wc)

          = (173.069)/ (27.174)

          = 6.368

⇒Maximum theoretical COP = 6.368

A heat engine is coupled with a dynamometer. The length of the load arm is 900 mm. The spring balance reading is 16. Applied wei
miss Akunina [59]

Answer:

P = 80.922 KW

Explanation:

Given data;

Length of load arm is 900 mm = 0.9 m

Spring balanced  read 16 N

Applied weight is 500 N

Rotational speed is 1774 rpm

we know that power is given as

P = T\times \omega

T Torque = (w -s) L = (500 - 16)0.9 = 435.6 Nm

\omega angular speed =\frac{2 \pi N}{60}

Therefore Power is

P =\frac{435.6 \time 2 \pi \times 1774}{60} = 80922.65  watt

P = 80.922 KW

A sample of sand weighs 490 g in stock and 475 in Oven Dry (OD) condition, respectively. If absorption capability of the sand is
Ivahew [28]

The weight of the specimen in SSD condition is 373.3 cc

<u>Explanation</u>:

a) Apparent specific gravity = \frac{A}{A-C}

Where,

A = mass of oven dried test sample in air = 1034 g

B = saturated surface test sample in air = 1048.9 g

C = apparent mass of saturated test sample in water = 975.6 g

apparent specific gravity = \frac{A}{A-C}

                                         = \frac{1034}{1034-675 \cdot 6}

Apparent specific gravity = 2.88

b) Bulk specific gravity G_{B}^{O D}=\frac{A}{B-C}

G_{B}^{O D}=\frac{1034}{1048.9-675 \cdot 6}

       =  2.76

c) Bulk specific gravity (SSD):

G_{B}^{S S D}=\frac{B}{B-C}

=\frac{1048 \cdot 9}{1048 \cdot 9-675 \cdot 6}

G_{B}^{S S D} = 2.80

d) Absorption% :

=\frac{B-A}{A} \times 100 \%

=\frac{1048 \cdot 9-1034}{1034} \times 100

Absorption = 1.44 %

e) Bulk Volume :

v_{b}=\frac{\text { weight of dispaced water }}{P \omega t}

=\frac{1048 \cdot 9-675 \cdot 6}{1}

= 373.3 cc
