Answer:

Explain why it is not advisable to sterilise a clinical thermometer on boiling water at normal atmospheric temperature. A clinical thermometer has small temperature range. The glass will crack/burst due to excessive pressure created by expansion of mercury.

Water is leaking out of an inverted conical tank at a rate of 1.5 cm3 /min at the same time that water is being pumped into the
iris [78.8K]

Answer:

a) Check Explanation

b) Check Explanation

c) The rate at which water is being pumped into the tank = 2.631 cm³/min

Explanation:

Let the rate of flow of water into the tank be k cm³/min

a) The image of the conical tank is presented in the attached image

Note, the radius and height of a cone are related through the similar triangles principle.

As shown in the attached image, it is evident that

r/h = 3/10

r = 3h/10 = 0.3 h

b) The quantities given in the problem.

- Shape of the tank, conical tank, Hence volume of the tank = πr²h/3

- total height of the tank, H = 10 cm

- Radius of the tank at the top, R = D/2 = 6/2 = 3 cm

- rate at which water is leaking from the tank = 1.5 cm³/min

- water is being pumped into the tank at constant rate of k cm³/min

- As at height of water, h = 2 cm, the rate of rise in water level = 1 cm/min

c) volume of the tank at any time = πr²h/3

Rate of change in the volume of water in the tank = (rate of flow into the tank) - (Rate of water flow out of the tank)

dV/dt = k - 1.5

V = πr²h/3 and r = 0.3 h, r² = 0.09 h²

V = 0.03πh³

dV/dt = (dV/dh) × (dh/dt)

dV/dh = 0.09π h²

dV/dt = 0.09π h² (dh/dt)

dV/dt = k - 1.5

0.09π h² (dh/dt) = k - 1.5

But at h = 2 cm, (dh/dt) = 1.0 cm/min

0.09π h² (dh/dt) = k - 1.5

0.09π 2² (1) = k - 1.5

k - 1.5 = 1.131

k = 1.5 + 1.131 = 2.631 cm³/min

Astronomers beleive that there is no planet in the asteroid belt region because
kipiarov [429]

Answer:

Option d.

Explanation:

The asteroid belt is a stellar disc which exists in between Mars and Jupiter's orbits which consists of a large no. of asteroids in our solar system.

the asteroids in the asteroid belt are formed from different regions and those asteroids with the similar chemical properties or compositions form a group and the different groups formed on these basis are distant from each other with some gap called as kirkwood gap. The gaps so formed are in resonance with Jupiter and are influenced by the strong gravitational force of Jupiter which renders them unstable in the region of resonance which prevents planet formation.

If a rock is thrown vertically upward from the surface of Mars with velocity 15 mys, its height after t seconds is h − 15t 2 1.8
mr Goodwill [35]

Answer: a) 7.56m/s b) 6.245m/s on its way up and -6.245m/s on its way down.

Explanation:

a) Velocity after 2 seconds

H = 15t - 1.86t^2

V(0) = 15 m/s

Now let’s first differentiate h with respect to t , we have

d/dt x h = d/dt (15t - 1.86t^2)

= 15 d/dt x t - 1.86 d/dt x t^2

= 15 x 1 - 1.86(2t) = 15 - 3.72t

t = 2 sec

Therefore

V(t) = 15 - 3.72(2) = 7.56 m/s

b) if height is 25m

H = 15t - 1.86t^2

Therefore h = 25, we have

25 = 15t - 1.86t^2

15t - 1.86t^2 - 25 = 0

1500t - 186t^2 - 2500 = 0

-186t^2 + 1500t - 2500 = 0

Using quadratic equation to find the roots of equation

First root t1 = 2.3535

Second root T2 = 5.71102

Now, at t1,

V(t1) = 15 - 3.72 (2.3535) = 6.245 m/s

The velocity of the rock on its way up is 6.245 m/s

V(T2) = 15 - 3.72 (5.71102) = -6.245 m/s

The velocity of the rock on its way down is -6.245 m/s
