Answer:

The initial volume in mL is 5959.2 mL

Explanation:

As the number of moles of a gas increases, the volume also increases. Hence, number of moles and volumes are directly proportional i.e

n ∝ V

Where n is the number of moles and V is the volume

Then, n = cV

c is the proportionality constant

∴n/V = c

Hence n₁/V₁ = n₂/V₂

Where n₁ is the initial number of moles

V₁ is the initial volume

n₂ is the final number of moles

and V₂ is the final volume.

From the question,

n₁ = 0.693 moles

V₁ = ?

n₂ = 0.928 moles

V₂ = 7.98 L

Putting the values into the equation

n₁/V₁ = n₂/V₂

0.693 / V₁ = 0.928 / 7.98

Cross multiply

∴ 0.928V₁ = 0.693 × 7.98

0.928V₁ = 5.53014

V₁ = 5.53014/0.928

V₁ = 5.9592 L

To convert to mL, multiply by 1000

∴ V₁ = 5.9592 × 1000 mL

V₁ = 5959.2 mL

Hence, the initial volume in mL is 5959.2 mL

A chemist must prepare 800.0mL of sodium hydroxide solution with a pH of 12.10 at 25°C. She will do this in three steps: Fill a
AnnZ [28]

Answer:

0.42 g

Explanation:

We have:

pH = 12.10 (25 °C)

V = 800.0 mL = 0.800 L

To find the mass of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) we can use the pH:

14 = pH + pOH

pOH = 14 - pH = 14 - 12.10 = 1.90

pOH = -log ([OH^{-}])

[OH]^{-} = 10^{-pOH} = 10^{-1.90} = 0.013 M

Now, we can find the number of moles (η) of OH:

\eta = ([OH]^{-})*V = 0.013 mol/L * 0.800 L = 1.04 \cdot 10^{-2} moles

Since we have 1 mol of OH in 1 mol of NaOH, the number of moles of NaOH is equal to 1.04x10⁻² moles.

Finally, with the number of moles we can find the mass of NaOH:

m = \eta * M

Where M is the molar mass of NaOH = 39.9 g/mol

m = 1.04 \cdot 10^{-2} moles * 39.9 g/mol = 0.42 g

Therefore, the mass of sodium hydroxide that the chemist must weigh out in the second step is 0.42 g.

I hope it helps you!

Sand is a compound consisting atoms of
Maru [420]

Answer:

b) Silicon and oxygen

Explanation:

A compound is a pure substance that contains two or more atoms chemically joined together. Sand is regarded as a 'compound' because it is made up of two or more atoms that are chemically bonded to one another.

Sand is said to predominantly contain silica, which has a chemical formula of SiO2. Hence, sand can be said to be a compound containing one atom of silicon (Si) and two atoms of oxygen (O2).

If a gas is formed when mixing two liquids together why might you not see any bubbles
seropon [69]
I'm no chemist, but not every chemical reaction has to bubble. For instance, when you put dry ice in water it creates a mist, but it doesn't make the water bubble.
