For the following word equation, write it as a chemical equation, then balance it

Chemistry
1 answer:
lorasvet [3.4K]3 years ago
4 0

Answer:

4K + O2 ---> 2K2O

Explanation:

The valence of Potassium is +1

The valence of oxygen is -2

Thus, two atoms of potassium will attach with one atom of oxygen to form molecule of potassium oxide.

This can be written as

2K + O ---> K2O

However, this is not the balanced equation as oxygen exists as O2 molecule.

Thus, the balanced equation is

4K + O2 ---> 2K2O

What amount of moles of sodium chloride is needed to prepare 1.25 L of a salt solution with a concentration of 0.750 mol/L
stellarik [79]

Answer:

Number of moles = 0.94 mol

Explanation:

Given data:

Number of moles of sodium chloride = ?

Volume of sodium chloride = 1.25 L

Concentration of solution = 0.750 mol/L

Solution:

Formula:

Concentration = number of moles/ volume in L

By putting values.

0.750 mol/L = number of mole / 1.25 L

Number of moles =  0.750 mol/L×1.25 L

Number of moles = 0.94 mol

Which of the following compounds has the highest boiling point.
nlexa [21]
Answer:
            1-Pentanol has the highest boiling point.

Explanation:
                   Boiling points of given compounds are as follow,

                 1) 2-Pentanone  =  101 °C

                 2) 1-Pentanol  =  138 °C

                 3)  Pentane  =  36.1 °C

                 4)  Pentanal  =  103 °C

Pentanol has greatest boiling point as compare to others because it involes a strongest intermolecular interactions called as hydrogen bond interactions. Remaining compounds lack the direct attachement of hydrogen to most electrnegative atom like oxygen which is present in 1-Pentanol.

If you mixed chlorine, argon, and sodium together, what would you expect to happen?
Free_Kalibri [48]
If you mixed chlorine, argon, and sodium together, just by mixing there will be no changes or reaction that would happen since the energy in mixing the substances is not enough to let a reaction happen. However, if enough energy is added to the system sodium and chlorine might react and form sodium chloride.

The effective nuclear charge of an atom is primarily affected by ________.
Fittoniya [83]
The answer to this question would be: inner electrons

The effective nuclear charge is the net positive charge that applied to an electron of a polyelectronic atom. It was written with the formula of Zeff= Z-S where Zeff means the effective nuclear charge, Z is the nuclear charge and S is the average number of the electron between the electron and nucleus.
Since only inner electron is counted on S, the outer electron has no effect.
