Athens, Greece, was the sentimental favorite to host the centennial games, and tension was palpable as IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch made the announcement back on Sept. 18, 1990.

"The International Olympic Committee has awarded the 1996 Olympic Games to the city of ... Atlanta," Samaranch revealed.

That announcement launched more than $1 billion of construction projects, from Olympic venues to housing for the athletes. Now, on the 15th anniversary of the games, Atlanta sees both gains and losses from the international event. Bringing the 1996 Summer Olympic Games to Atlanta was a long shot. One of the most prominent legacies of the games is Centennial Olympic Park in the heart of Atlanta. The 21-acre plaza glistens in what was an area of urban decay, and children run and linger in the fountain.

Harvey Newman, a professor of public policy at Georgia State University, says the park brought economic development downtown.

"The area surrounding the park has added major hotels, condominiums, new office structures and, of course, people continue to flock to enjoy the Olympic rings fountain," Newman says.

A hollow sphere of radius 0.25 m is rotating at 13 rad/s about an axis that passes through its center. the mass of the sphere is
cestrela7 [59]

The work required to bring the sphere to stop is equal to the kinetic energy possessed by the sphere.

Kinetic energy of a rotating body is given by,

K.E = \frac{1}{2}Iw^{2}

Here, I= Moment of inertia of hollow sphere,

Since, the hollow sphere is rotating about the axis passing through its center, I =\frac{2}{3}MR^{2}

M= Mass of the sphere= 3.8 kg,

R= Radius of gyration= Radius of the sphere= 0.25 m

w= Angular speed of the sphere = 13 rad/s

Substituting the values,

Kinetic energy =\frac{1}{2} *\frac{2}{3} (3.8)(0.25)^{2}(13.0)^{2}

= 13.4 J

∴ Work required to bring the sphere to stop is 13.4 J.

Which is true about a convex mirror?
kakasveta [241]

Answer:

The answer is

A. Incident rays that are parallel to the central axis are dispersed but will be perceived as originating from a point on the near side of the mirror.

Explanation:

The images formed by a convex mirror is virtual, diminished and images are always formed between the Focal point and the pole of the mirror.

Convex mirrors are used as car driving mirrors because they form upright images and also give wider field of view (dispersed) , and notice that in the car driving mirrors there is a warning "objects appear closer than they are "

Which explains our answer, that images are perceived from a near side
