You are given a sample of several compounds to separate by paper chromatography. You draw a pencil line exactly 1.00 cm from the

bottom of the paper, and place a spot of sample on it. You dry the sample, then develop it in a solvent. When the chromatogram is taken out of the solvent, the paper is wet up to 9.17 cm from the bottom of the sheet. The compound you are interested in shows up as a spot 7.57 cm from the bottom of the paper. Calculate the following:
a. How far did the compound move?
b. In the same time, how far did the solvent move?
c. What is the Rf factor for the compound?

Answer:

a. 6.57 cm

b. 8.17 cm

c. 0.80

Explanation:

a. The compound moved from where it was first placed, to a spot 7.57 cm from the bottom of the paper, in other words:

 • 7.57 cm - 1.00 cm = 6.57 cm

b. A similar method is made for the solvent:

 • 9.17 cm - 1.00 cm = 8.17 cm

c. The Rf of the factor is equal to the distance that the compound moved divided by the distance the solvent moved:

 • 6.57 cm / 8.17 cm = 0.80

The specific heat capacity of titanium is 0.523j/g c what is the heat capacity of 2.3g of titanium
kodGreya [7K]

Answer:

1.2029 J/g.°C

Explanation:

Given data:

Specific heat capacity of titanium = 0.523 J/g.°C

Specific heat capacity of 2.3 gram of titanium = ?

Solution:

Specific heat capacity:

It is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of substance by one degree.

Formula:

Q = m.c. ΔT

Q = amount of heat absorbed or released

m = mass of given substance

c = specific heat capacity of substance

ΔT = change in temperature

1 g of titanium have 0.523 J/g.°C specific heat capacity

2.3 × 0.523 J/g.°C

1.2029 J/g.°C

All of the alkali earth metals, Group 2, have two valence electrons. Which of these would represent the oxidation number of the
chubhunter [2.5K]
Since Group 2 alkali earth metals have 2 valence electrons, they tend to lose those 2 when forming ionic bonds. And the Loss of Electrons = Oxidation (L.E.O. for short). Therefore this group, including Mg and Ca, have an oxidation of [+2].
So the correct answer is C) +2
