A reaction is second order respect to the reactant A. If the reaction is 85% complete in 12 minutes, how long would it take for
AnnZ [28]

Answer:

e. 22s

Explanation:

Initial Concentration = 100

Final concentration = 15 ( Since the reaction is 85% complete)

Time = 12 minutes = 720 seconds

The integrated rate law for second order reactions is given as;

1 / [A] = (1 / [A]o) + kt

Making k subject of interest, we have;

kt = (1 / [A] ) - (1 / [A]o )

k = (1 / [A] ) - (1 / [A]o ) / t

k = [(1/ 15) - (1 / 100) ] / 720

k = (0.0667 - 0.01 ) / 720

k = 0.0567 / 720

k = 7.875e^-5

How long would it take for the reaction to be 15% complete?

Final concentration = 85 (Since the reaction would be 15% complete)

The integrated rate law for second order reactions is given as;

1 / [A] = (1 / [A]o) + kt

Making t subject of interest, we have;

kt = (1 / [A] ) - (1 / [A]o )

t = (1 / [A] ) - (1 / [A]o ) / k

t = [(1 / 85 ) - (1 / 100) ] / 7.875e^-5

t = (0.0117 - 0.01 ) / 7.875e^-5

t = 0.001765 / 7.875e^-5

t = 22.41 seconds

Corect option = E.

In the so called rain shadow effect we have interaction between all of the four major Earth spheres. When we have a coastal region where there's a high mountain range, the part of the mountain that is facing the sea will differ a lot from the part of the mountain that is on the other side. The water from the sea evaporates. The water vapor makes the air wet. The warm and wet air masses from the sea will come to the coastline, once they reach the mountain they will start to accumulate as they can not pass through it. As they accumulate rainfall appears. The rainfall contributes to a lush vegetation on this side of the mountain (windward side). The rain shadow effect appears on the leeward side of the mountain, and it mostly gets dry, strong, downward winds. These conditions result in drier climate, much less vegetation, and much increased erosion. Thus we can easily see that we have in this case interaction between the hydrosphere (the sea and the rainfall), the geosphere (the ground, soil, rocks), biosphere (the vegetation), and atmosphere (the winds, the clouds).

After balancing the following reaction under acidic conditions, how many mole equivalents of water are required and on which sid
nordsb [41]

Answer:

d. 8 moles of H2O on the product side

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, we need to balance the given redox reaction in acidic media as shown below:

MnO_4^{1-} (aq) + Cl^{1-} (aq) \rightarrow  Mn^{2+} (aq) + Cl_2 (g)\\\\(Mn^{7+}O^{2-}_4)^{1-} (aq) + Cl^{1-} (aq) \rightarrow  Mn^{2+} (aq) + Cl_2 (g)\\\\\\\\(Mn^{7+}O^{2-}_4)^{1-} (aq)+8H^++5e^- \rightarrow Mn^{2+}+4H_2O\\\\2Cl^{1-}\rightarrow Cl_2^0+2e^-\\\\2*[(Mn^{7+}O^{2-}_4)^{1-} (aq)+8H^++5e^- \rightarrow Mn^{2+}+4H_2O]\\\\5*[2Cl^{1-}\rightarrow Cl_2^0+2e^-]\\\\\\\\2(Mn^{7+}O^{2-}_4)^{1-} (aq)+16H^++10e^- \rightarrow 2Mn^{2+}+8H_2O\\\\10Cl^{1-}\rightarrow 5Cl_2^0+10e^-\\

Then, we add the half reactions:

2(Mn^{7+}O^{2-}_4)^{1-} (aq)+16H^++10Cl^{1-} \rightarrow 2Mn^{2+}+8H_2O+5Cl_2^0

Thereby, we can see d. 8 moles of H2O on the product side.

Best regards.
