By Ignoring air resistance, the coefficient of Kinetic friction between the sidewalk and the metal sled runners is 0.69

FRICTION

Friction is a force that opposes motion.

Given that Gwen exerts a 36 N horizontal force as she pulls a 52 N sled across a cement sidewalk at constant speed

  • At constant speed, acceleration a = 0
  • Force applied F = 36 N
  • The weight = Normal reaction N = 52

From Newton's law,

Sum of forces = ma

That is,

F - F_{r} = ma

Where F_{r}  = frictional force

F - F_{r}  = 0

F = F_{r}  = 36 N

F_{r}  = μN

Where μ = coefficient of kinetic friction

36 = μ x 52

μ = 36/52

μ = 0.69

Therefore, the coefficient of Kinetic friction between the sidewalk and the metal sled runners is 0.69 when we Ignore air resistance.

93 cm3 liquid has a mass of 77 g. When calculating its density what is the appropriate number of significant figures
lubasha [3.4K]

Answer:

828 kg/m³ or 0.828 g/cm³

Explanation:

Applying,

D = m/V............. Equation 1

Where D = density of the liquid, m = mass of the liquid, V = volume of the liquid.

From the question,

Given: m = 77 g , V = 93 cm³

Substitute these values into equation 1

D = 77/93

D = 0.828 g/cm³

Converting to kg/m³

D = 828 kg/m³

A pitcher throws a 0.14-kg baseball toward the batter so that it crosses home plate horizontally and has a speed of 42 m/s just
kykrilka [37]

Answer

given,

mass of base ball = 0.14 kg

speed before it made the contact with the ball (V i) = 42 m/s

speed after batter hit the ball(V f) = - 48 m/s

a)

impulse = change in momentum

             = m\times (V_f-V_i)

             =0.14\times (-48-42)

             = -12.6 Kg m/s

Magnitude of impulse = 12.6 Kg m/s

b)

Force = \dfrac{impulse}{time}

          =  \dfrac{12.6}{0.005}

Force = 2520 N
