(Modified problem 3-11 in Chapman) In later years, motors improved and could be run directly from a 50 Hz power supply. As a res

ult, 16.67 Hz power systems shrank and disappeared. However, there were many perfectly good working 16.67 Hz motors in factories around the country that owners were not ready to discard. To keep them running, some users created their own 16.67 Hz power in the plant using motor-generator sets. A motor-generator set consists of two machines connected on a common shaft, one acting as a motor and the other acting as a generator. If the two machines have different numbers of poles but exactly the same shaft speed, then the electrical frequency of the two machines will be different due to relationship fse = nsm⋅P/120. What combination of poles on the two machines could convert 50 Hz power to 16.67 Hz power?

Answer:

Hence to get the same speed, the ratio of poles of generator to motor should be 3.

Explanation:

We are given that the speeds of the motor-generator sets are same.

In case of motors we have operating frequency 16.67 Hz and now we need to define the number of poles of generator set so that we can get the same speed.

For the case of motor, we write an equation;

f m = speedm x Pm / 120

speedm = fm x 120 / Pm

For the case of generator we write an equation;

speedg = fg x 120 /Pg

Now we know that speedm = speedg

fm x 120 / Pm = fg x 120 /Pg

fm / Pm = fg  /Pg

16.67 / Pm = 50 / Pg

Pg / Pm = 50 / 16.67

Pg / Pm = 3

Hence to get the same speed, the ratio of poles of generator to motor should be 3.

For example;

If motor has 2 poles, then generator will have 6 poles

What is the length a rubberband was stretched if it has a spring constant of 5700N/m and is currently holding 8600J OF POTENTIAL
lozanna [386]

Answer:

\displaystyle \Delta x=1.74\ m

Explanation:

<u>Elastic Potential Energy </u>

Is the energy stored in an elastic material like a spring of constant k, in which case the energy is proportional to the square of the change of length Δx and the constant k.

\displaystyle PE = \frac{1}{2}k(\Delta x)^2

Given a rubber band of a spring constant of k=5700 N/m that is holding potential energy of PE=8600 J, it's required to find the change of length under these conditions.

Solving for Δx:

\displaystyle \Delta x=\swrt{\frac{2PE}{k}}

Substituting:

\displaystyle \Delta x=\sqrt{\frac{2*8600}{5700}}

Calculating:

\displaystyle \Delta x=\sqrt{3.0175}

\boxed{\displaystyle \Delta x=1.74\ m}

A e limb of mass 12kg falls straight down. If air resistance exerts 27 N of froce on the limb as it falls, what is the net force
Gelneren [198K]
During the falling down, two forces are present: gravitational force and air resistance.

So, the net force = mg - f = 12*9.8 - 27 = 90.6 N, the positive sign indicates the direction is pointing towards the center of the earth, which is the same as gravitational force

What is the acceleration of the the object during the first 4 seconds?
AVprozaik [17]

Answer:

Velocity (m/s) over time (s) graph

Velocity (m/s) over time (s) graph

We could write out our average acceleration as:

a = Δv/ Δta=Δv/Δta, equals, Δ, v, slash, Δ, t

a = (15 m/s - 0 m/s) / 0.2 seconds

a = 15 m/s / 0.2 seconds

a = 75 m/s / second

Explanation:

What this formula is telling us is that if we know the acceleration of an object, and the ... we can plug in our acceleration of 12.5 m/s2 for a, and 4 seconds for t.

Velocity (m/s) over time (s) graph
