What is the difference between dissolving and dissociating and how does this relate to the van't hoff factor?

Solvation is the process of dissolving.

Dissociation is the separation of a substance into charged components during dissolution.

What is the difference between dissolving and dissociating?

Dissolution (dissolving), which simply refers to becoming solvated by the solvent, is a subset of dissociation, which is particularly the separation of two charged ions in solution. When the solvent completely envelops each individual solute molecule, solvation takes place. By definition, something that is dissociated in a solvent must be dissolved in it. For instance, the salt dissociates in water, which is how it dissolves in water. In water, ethanol dissolves but does not dissociate; it remains ethanol.

How does Van't Hoff's factor work?

The Van't Hoff factor is a tool used to compare the real number of moles of solute injected to create a solution to the apparent amount produced by colloidal characteristics.

What is the Van't Hoff factor's value?

Van't Hoff factor's value is:-

  • No association or dissociation i=1
  • Dissociation                                             i<1
  • Association                                               i>1

A student is using a coffee-cup calorimeter to determine the enthalpy change of the endothermic reaction of two aqueous solution
Liula [17]

Answer:

See the answer below

Explanation:

First, it should be understood that an endothermic reaction is one that absorbs energy in the form of heat from the surrounding. The products of endothermic reactions usually have higher energy than their reactants. Hence, the ΔH° which is referred to as the enthalpy change is usually positive.

Forgetting to cover the coffee-cup calorimeter means some of the heat energy absorbed by the reactants would be exchanged back to the surroundings - a loss. It also means that the enthalpy change would be smaller compared to if the cup had been covered because some of the heat has been lost to the surrounding.

What do proteins act as?
Tresset [83]

Proteins are made from long chains of smaller molecules called amino acids. These long chains are folded into particular shapes. This is important in relation to how antibodies and enzymes work.

Enzymes are biological catalysts. There are optimum temperatures and pH values at which their activity is greatest. Enzymes are also proteins. If the shape of an enzyme changes, it may no longer work (it is said to have been 'denatured'). maybe right?

MrRissso [65]

Answer:

24.9%

Explanation:

According to this question, mole fraction of NaCl in an aqueous solution is 0.0927. This means that the mole percent of NaCl in the solution is:

0.0927 × 100 = 9.27%

Let's assume that the solution contains water (solvent) + NaCl (solute), hence, the mole fraction of water will be;

100% - 9.27% = 90.73%

THEREFORE, it can be said that, NaCl contains 0.0927moles while H2O contains 9.073moles

N.B: mole = mass/molar mass

Given the Molar Mass

NaCl: 58.44 g/mol

H2O: 18.016 g/mol

For NaCl;

0.0927 = mass/58.44

mass = 0.0927 × 58.44

5.42g

For H2O;

9.073 = mass/18.016

mass = 9.073 × 18.016

= 16.35g

Total mass of solution = 16.35g + 5.42g = 21.77g

Mass percent of NaCl = mass of NaCl/total mass × 100

% mass of NaCl = 5.42g/21.77g × 100

= 0.249 × 100

= 24.9%

What is the relationship between reaction rate and reaction time
Natali [406]

Answer:

The reaction rate is inversely proportional to the reaction time.

Explanation:

  • The reaction rate is the change of the concentration of reactants and products with the time.

∵ Reaction rate = - Δ[reactants]/Δt = Δ[products]/Δt.

∴ The reaction rate is inversely proportional to the time, as the reaction rate increases it will take a lower time.
