G in your own words, summarize the issue of ocean acidification: what is it and what's causing it?

Chemistry

Ocean acidification refers to a reduction in the pH of the ocean over an extended period of time, caused primarily by the uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.

Because of human-driven increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, there is more CO2 dissolving into the ocean. The ocean's average pH is now around 8.1, which is basic (or alkaline), but as the sea continues to absorb more CO2, the pH decreases and the ocean becomes more acidic.

How does ocean acidification affect us?

Ocean acidification can modify the abundance and chemical composition of harmful algal blooms in such a way that shellfish toxicity increases and, therefore, human health are negatively affected.

How we can reduce ocean acidification?

The most effective way to limit ocean acidification is to act on climate change, implementing solutions to dramatically reduce the use of fossil fuels. If we dramatically cut our global warming emissions, and we limit future warming, we can significantly reduce the harm to marine ecosystems.

What is the enthalpy of formation (?H?f) of NaHCO3(s) from its constituent elements.
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

Enthalpy of formation = -947.68KJ/mol

Explanation:

Enthalpy of formation is the heat change when one mole of a substance is formed from its element in its standard states and in standard conditions of temperature and pressure. it may be positive or negative, if positive, it is an endothermic reaction where the heat content of the product is greater than that of the reactants, and if negative, it is exothermic reaction - where the heat content of the reactants is greater than the products. the enthalpy of formation is measured in KiloJoule/Moles (KJ/Mole).

From the value of the enthalpy of formation of NaHCO3, it shows that the reaction is exothermic, that is the formation of NaHCO3 from its constituents elements. As such, the heat content of the reactants is greater than the products.

The step by step explanation is shown in the attachment.

Some covalent compounds contain atoms of just one element. true or false?
kifflom [539]
True, because diatomic elements (H2, O2, F2, Br2, I2, N2, Cl2) consist of only one element but are molecules with covalent bonds.

Monica [59]

Answer:

364 K or 91°C

Explanation:

Applying,

V₁/T₁ = V₂/T₂................ Equation 1

Where V₁ = Initial Volume, V₂ = Final volume, T₁ = initial Temperature, T₂ = final Temperature.

make T₂ the subject of the equation,

T₂ = V₂T₁/V₁................. Equation 2

From the question,

Given: V₁ = 375 mL, V₂ = 500 mL, T₁ = 0.0°C = (273+0) K = 273 K

Substitute these values into equation 2

T₂ = (500×273)/375

T₂ = 364 K

T₂ = (364-273) °C = 91 °C
