Given:

<em>Resistance = R </em>

<em>Lenght of second wire (L2)= half of the first wire's lenght (L1) = L1/2</em>

<em>Diameter of the second wire (D2)= Half of the first wire's diameter(D1) = D2/2</em>

Apply:

R=\frac{\rho L}{A}

Where:

R= resistance

ρ= resitivity

L= lenght

A = cross sectional area

Replacing:

R = ρL2/A2

R= ρ (L1/2)/ (πd2^2 /4 )

R= 2ρL / π (d/2)^2

R= 2ρL / [πd^2/4]

R=2 ( 4ρL/πd^2)

R= 2R

Answer = 2R

A hole is drilled in a metal plate. When the metal is raised to a higher temperature, what happens to the diameter of the hole?
zysi [14]

Answer:

The diameter of the hole increases

Explanation:

Metals expand and contract with temperature. Whenever metal is heated, it usually expands in relation to its thermal expansivity. This expansion leads to a slight increase in surface area.

Once the surface area of the metal changes, this means that the dimensions of the whole metal surface changed. As a result, the diameter of the hole drilled in the metal plate will change also. In our case, the diameter of the hole will increase.

You have a pulley 10.4 cm in diameter and with a mass of 2.3 kg. You get to wondering whether the pulley is uniform. That is, is
madreJ [45]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given

Diameter of Pulley=10.4 cm

mass of Pulley(m)=2.3 kg

mass of book(m_0)=1.7 kg

height(h)=1 m

time taken=0.64 s

h=ut+frac{at^2}{2}

1=0+\frac{a(0.64)^2}{2}

a=4.88 m/s^2and [tex]a=\alpha r

where \alphais angular acceleration of pulley

4.88=\alpha \times 5.2\times 10^{-2}

\alpha =93.84 rad/s^2

And Tension in Rope

T=m(g-a)

T=1.7\times (9.8-4.88)

T=8.364 N

and Tension will provide Torque

T\times r=I\cdot \alpha

8.364\times 5.2\times 10^{-2}=I\times 93.84

I=0.463\times 10^{-2} kg-m^2

I_{original}=\frac{mr^2}{2}=0.31\times 10^{-2}kg-m^2

Thus mass is uniformly distributed or some more towards periphery of Pulley

A 2.20-kg object is attached to a spring and placed on frictionless, horizontal surface. A horizontal force of 29.0 N is require
g100num [7]

Answer:

a. 145 N/m b. 1.29 Hz c. 1.62 m/s d.  0 m e. 13.2 m/s² f. ± 0.2 m g. 2.9 J h. 0.54 m/s i. 4.39 m/s²

Explanation:

a. The force constant of the spring

The spring force F = kx and k = F/x where k is the spring constant. F = 29.0 N and x = 0.200 m

k = 29.0 N/0.200 m = 145 N/m

b. The frequency of oscillations, f

f = 1/2π√(k/m)    m = mass = 2.20 kg

f = 1/2π√(145 N/m/2.20 kg) = 1.29 Hz

c. maximum speed of the object

The maximum elastic potential energy of the spring = maximum kinetic  energy of the object

1/2kx² = 1/2mv²

v = (√k/m)x where v is the maximum speed of the object

v = (√145/2.2)0.2 = 1.62 m/s

d Where does the maximum speed occur?

The maximum speed occurs at  0 m

e. The maximum acceleration

a = kx/m = 145 × 0.2/2.2 = 13.2 m/s²

f. The maximum acceleration occurs at x = ± 0.2 m

g. The total energy of the system is the maximum elestic potential energy of the system

E = 1/2kx² = 1/2 × 145 × 0.2² = 2.9 J

h. When x = x₀/3

1/2k(x₀/3)² = 1/2mv²

kx₀²/9 = mv²

v = 1/3(√k/m)x₀ = 1/3(√145/2.2)0.2 = 0.54 m/s

i When x = x₀/3

a = kx₀/3m =  145 × 0.2/(2.2 × 3)= 4.39 m/s²
