Answer:

(a) the final velocity of the combined mass is 9.43 m/s

(b) the decrease in kinetic energy during the collision is 386.1 J

Explanation:

Given;

mass of arrow, m₁ = 25 kg

initial velocity of arrow, u₁ = 12 m/s

mass of target, m₂ = 6.8 kg

initial velocity of the target, u₂ = 0

Part (a)

From the principle of conservation of linear momentum;

Total momentum before collision = Total momentum after collision

m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = v(m₁+m₂)

where;

v is the final velocity of the combined mass

25 x 12 + 0 = v(25 + 6.8)

300 = v(31.8)

v = 300/31.8

v = 9.43 m/s

Part(b)

Kinetic Energy, K.E = ¹/₂mv²

Initial kinetic energy =  ¹/₂m₁u₁² + ¹/₂m₂u₂²  = ¹/₂ x 25 x (12)² + 0 = 1800 J

Final kinetic energy = ¹/₂m₁v² + ¹/₂m₂v² = ¹/₂v²(m₁ + m₂)

                                                               = ¹/₂ x (9.43)²(25+6.8)

                                                               = 1413.91 J

Decrease in kinetic energy = Initial K.E - Final K.E

Decrease in kinetic energy = 1800J - 1413.91 J = 386.1 J

A thin rod (length = 2.97 m) is oriented vertically, with its bottom end attached to the floor by means of a frictionless hinge.
nlexa [21]

Answer:

a)  w = 2.57 rad / s , b)   α = 3.3 rad / s²

Explanation:

a) Let's use the conservation of mechanical energy, we will write it in two points the highest and when touching the ground

Initial. Higher

       Em₀ = U = m g h

Final. Touching the ground

       Em_{f} = K = ½ I w²

How energy is conserved

       Em₀ = Em_{f}

       mg h = ½ I w2

The moment of specific object inertia

        I = m L²

We replace

       m g h = ½ (mL²) w²

       w² = 2g h / L²

The height of the object is the length of the bar

        h = L

        w = √ 2g / L

       w = √ (2 9.8 / 2.97)

       w = 2.57 rad / s

b) the angular acceleration can be found from Newton's second rotational law

       τ = I α

       W L = I α

       mg L = (m L²) α

       α = g / L

       α = 9.8 / 2.97

       α = 3.3 rad / s²

How much is the tension number 2
mestny [16]

This is what I got:

Net force in the Y direction:

ΣFy = T1 - T2

F = ma

ma = T1 - T2

Isolate for T2

ma - T1 = -T2

Multiply by -1

T1 - ma = T2

100 - (3)(2) = T2

100 - 6 = T2

T2 = 94 N
