You've built quite a convoluted question there, Thelo.

If you wrote what you mean and I read it correctly, then the phrase
in the blank is "... the loss of energy to friction in the machine ...".

If santa slides 5.00 m before reaching the edge, what is his speed as he leaves the roof?
AveGali [126]

Even with no friction, it depends on the slope of the roof. That is, it depends on how much elevation (altitude) he loses during the slide.

Whatever that number is ... call it 'h' ... Santa's speed when he reaches the edge is

Square root of (19.6h) meters per second.

It doesn't matter how much he weighs, or how far he has slud. Only how much altitude he lost on the slope while sliding.

A gun has a muzzle speed of 80 meters per second. What angle of elevation should be used to hit an object 180 meters away? Negle
olga55 [171]
Knowing the initial velocity and angle, the horizontal range formula is given by   R= V^2sin(2teta) / g, so we can get
sin(2teta)=Rg/V^2
sin(2teta)= (180 x 9.8)/ 80^2= 0.27, sin(2teta)=0.27, 2teta=arcsin(0.27)=15.66, so teta=15.66/2

teta=7.83°
