(b) A compound X contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen only

Chemistry
1 answer:
Ad libitum [116K]3 years ago
7 0

Explanation:

Let compound X be 100g.

Molar mass of carbon = 12g/mol

Moles of C in compound X = 54.54/12 = 4.54mol.

Molar mass of hydrogen = 1g/mol

Moles of H in compound X = 9.09/1 = 9.09mol.

Molar mass of oxygen = 16g/mol

Moles of O in compound X = 36.37/16 = 2.27mol

Ratio of C:H:O = 4.54:9.09:2.27 = 2:4:1.

Hence, the empirical formula of X is C2H4O.

Which ion in each of the following pairs would you expect to be more strongly hydrated Why?ClO4- or SO4-
Viktor [21]

Answer:

ClO₄⁻

Explanation:

When an ion is hydrated it is surrounded by water molecules, thus, as small is the ion, more molecules may surround it, and it will be more strongly hydrated. In this case, the Cl is small than the S atom, because Cl is from group 17, and S from group 16, and Cl has more valence electrons, which will be more attracted to the nuclei.

So, ClO₄⁻ will be more strongly hydrated.

Which of the pairs of molecular structures shown below depict enantiomers (enantiomeric forms) of the same molecule?
Arisa [49]
Enantiomers is a type of structural isomerism. Two structures have the same chemical formula, but they differ in the arrangement of functional groups. The key characteristic of a pair of enantiomers is that, the two structures are mirror-images of each other. Example is the two isomers of 2-butanol shown in the picture.
