The scientific definition of Work is a force acting through a distance.

When you <em>lean against a brick wall</em> on the side of a building, nothing is moving, so no force is acting through any distance.  So this choice is not an example of work.

Two steamrollers begin 100 m apart and head toward each other, each at a constant speed of 1.00 m/s . At the same instant, a fly
Debora [2.8K]

Answer:

The fly travels 2.4 m

Explanation:

Since the Two steamrollers begin 100 m apart and head toward each other, each at a constant speed of 1.00 m/s, we can find the time until they crash by the formula:

Distance = Speed × Time

Time = Distance /Speed

Time = (100 m) / (1 m/s)

Time = 100 hours

Now, the fly will spend the same amount of time traveling as the steamrollers.

Since the fly moves at a speed of 2.4 m/s and we have a time of one hour the steamroller take to collide, then the fly will go a distance of;

Distance = speed x time = 2.4 × 1 = 2.4 m

What do scientists theorize about the origins of the Moon? Choose the most accepted explanation.
Darina [25.2K]

Answer:

What is most widely accepted today is a the giant-impact theory. It proposes that the Moon formed during a collision between the Earth and another small planet, about the size of Mars. The debris from this impact collected in an orbit around Earth to form the Moon.

Holly puts a box into the trunk of her car. Later, she drives around an unbanked curve that has a radius of 48 m. The speed of t
LiRa [457]

Answer:

The minimum coefficient of friction is 0.544

Solution:

As per the question:

Radius of the curve, R = 48 m

Speed of the car, v = 16 m/s

To calculate the minimum coefficient of static friction:

The centrifugal force on the box is in the outward direction and is given by:

F_{c} = \frac{mv^{2}}{R}

f_{s} = \mu_{s}mg

where

\mu_{s} = coefficient of static friction

The net force on the box is zero, since, the box is stationary and is given by:

F_{net} = f_{s} - F_{c}

0 = f_{s} - F_{c}

\mu_{s}mg = \frac{mv^{2}}{R}

\mu_{s} = \frac{v^{2}}{gR}

\mu_{s} = \frac{16^{2}}{9.8\times 48} = 0.544
