The alcohol functional group contains the elements of oxygen hydrogen and carbon.
saul85 [17]
It is FALSE. The alcohol or alwa ok functional group has a general formula of;
CnH₂n₊₁OH
Although, Carbkn is present in the alcohol group, it is not part of the functional group. The functional group is called hydroxyl group. And it is represented as OH. This means that it consists only of Oxygen and Hydrogen.
Hope that helped. Have a nice day

The runners have just started a race. They started at rest and are getting faster.
Anon25 [30]

A.  Acceleration is positive and speed is increasing.

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

The motion performed by a runner is part of a uniformly accelerated motion with constant acceleration.

Equation used

\tt \boxed{\bold{v_f=v_i+at}}

vf = final velocity

vi = vo = initial velocity

When a runner moves from rest, his speed will increase from being at rest (vi=0) and then move with a constant acceleration(a), and as soon as he crosses the finish line his acceleration will decrease (experience a deceleration ⇒a=- ) and decrease his speed until it finally stops

Velocity and speed are different because velocity itself is a vector quantity that takes into account direction and displacement, while speed is a scalar quantity (only distance).

So the speed does not take positive or negative values because it involves direction, while acceleration takes positive and negative values (deceleration) because it takes direction.

In the reaction shown below, ____________ acts as a base because ___________. HCO3- + H2O à H3O+ + CO32-
levacccp [35]

Answer: In the reaction HCO^{-}_{3} + H_{2}O \rightarrow H_{3}O^{+} + CO^{2-}_{3}, H_{2}O acts as a base because it has accepted a hydrogen ion or proton.

Explanation:

According to Arrhenius, species which dissociate to give hydrogen ions when dissolved in a solvent like water are called acid.

A species which readily accepts a hydrogen ion or proton is called a base.

For example, HCO^{-}_{3} + H_{2}O \rightarrow H_{3}O^{+} + CO^{2-}_{3}

Here, HCO^{-}_{3} is donating hydrogen ion. So, it is an acid whereas H_{2}O is accepting the hydrogen ion. Hence, H_{2}O is a base.

Thus, we can conclude that in the reaction HCO^{-}_{3} + H_{2}O \rightarrow H_{3}O^{+} + CO^{2-}_{3}, H_{2}O acts as a base because it has accepted a hydrogen ion or proton.

What is the concentration of 60 mL of H3PO4 if it is neutralized by 225 mL of 2 M Ba(OH)2?
goldfiish [28.3K]

7.5 M is the concentration of 60 ml of H3PO4 if it is neutralized by 225 ml of 2 M Ba(OH)2.

Explanation:

Data given:

volume of phosphoric acid, Vacid =60 ml

volume of barium hydroxide, Vbase = 225 ml

molarity of barium hydroxide, Mbase = 2M

Molarity of phosphoric acid, Macid =?

the formula for titration is used as:

Macid x Vacid = Mbase x Vbase

rearranging the equation to get Macid

Macid = \frac{Mbase x Vbase}{Vacid}

Macid =\frac{225 X 2}{60}

Macid = 7.5 M

the concentration of the phosphoric acid is 7.5 M and the volume is 60 ml. Thus 7.5 M solution of phosphoric acid is used to neutralize the barium hydroxide solution of 2M.
