What are the groups on the periodic table let us predict how elements will react
cluponka [151]

Answer:

The vertical columns are called groups.

Explanation:

Periodic table consist of vertical columns and horizontal rows.

Vertical columns are called groups while horizontal rows are called periods.

There are seven periods and 18 groups in periodic table.

The elements in same group have similar properties and can react in a similar way.

The elements in same group have same number of valance electrons that's why their reactivity is same.

Consider the example of alkaline earth metals. They are present in group two and have same number of valance electrons (two valance electrons).

They react with oxygen and form oxide.

2Ba   +   O₂   →    2BaO

2Mg  +   O₂   →    2MgO

2Ca +   O₂   →    2CaO

this oxide form hydroxide when react with water,

BaO  + H₂O   →  Ba(OH)₂

MgO  + H₂O   →  Mg(OH)₂

CaO  + H₂O   →  Ca(OH)₂

With sulfur,

Mg + S   →  MgS

Ca + S   →  CaS

Ba + S   →  BaS

What were some reasons why it was a good idea to remove the lid from the separatory funnel after each extraction? Select all tha
masya89 [10]
Liquid will no pour out. At the bottom the separating funnel consists of a valve it allow the liquid to flow out.The lid is on the top to pour in liquid from the top,it is air tight. Therefore as long as the lid is put, the liquid will not flow out at the bottom. The reason is that ,the incoming air has no way to get into the flask.

Which compounds are lewis acids? select all that apply. (ch3ch2)2hc+ cl3c− ch3nh2 bbr3?
alexandr402 [8]

The Lewis acids are electron pair acceptors due to the availability of vacant orbitals they accept electrons from the donor compounds.

  • (CH_3CH_2)_2CH^{+} is a Lewis acid due to the unfilled valence shell on carbon atom (possessing positive charge) it accepts electron readily.
  • CCl_{3}^{-} is not a Lewis acid due to the presence of negative charge which represents that there are electrons available for donation.
  • CH_3NH_2 is not a Lewis acid due to the presence of lone pair on nitrogen which is easily donated to the acceptors.
  • BBr_3 is a Lewis acid due to the availability of vacant p-orbital on boron atom.

Hence, (CH_3CH_2)_2CH^{+} and BBr_3 are Lewis acids.
