Answer:

The enthalphy change of the given reaction is -280 KJ.

Explanation:

X 2 + 3 Y 2 ⟶ 2 XY 3                            Δ H 1 = − 380 kJ     ....Eq-1

X 2 + 2 Z 2 ⟶ 2 XZ 2                            Δ H 2 = − 130 kJ     ....Eq-2

2 Y 2 + Z 2 ⟶ 2 Y 2 Z                           Δ H 3 = − 260 kJ    ....Eq-3

4 XY 3 + 7 Z 2 ⟶ 6 Y 2 Z + 4 XZ 2       ΔH                           ....Eq-4

By Hess law,

       The heat of any reaction ΔH for a specific reaction is equal to the sum of the heats of reaction for any set of reactions which in sum are equivalent to the overall reaction:

Eq-4 can be manipulated as,

    Eq-4 = -2(Eq-1) +2(Eq-2) +3(Eq-3)

By Hess law, same happen with their enthalphy

Therefore,

    ΔH = -2(ΔH1) + 2(ΔH2) + 3(ΔH3)

          = -2 × -380 + 2 × -130 + 3 × -260

          = -280 KJ

Determine the [H3O+] in a 0.265 M HClO solution. The Ka of HClO is 2.9 × 10-8.
dexar [7]

8.8 × 10-5 M is the  [H3O+] concentration in 0.265 M HClO solution.

Explanation:

HClO is a weak acid and does not completely dissociate in water as ions.

the equation of dissociation can be written and ice table to be formed.

HClO +H2O ⇒ ClO- + H3O+

I  0.265                0        0

C  -x                    +x     +x

E  0.265-x          +x      +x

Now applying the equation of Ka, where Ka is given as 2.9 × 10-8.

Ka = \frac{[ClO-][H3O+]}{[HClO]}

2.9 × 10^-8 = \frac{[x] [x]}{[0.265-x]}

x^{2} = 7.698 x10^{-9}

x = 8.8 × 10-5 M

The hydronium ion concentration is 8.8 × 10-5 M in 0.265 M solution of HClO.

Did Chelate compounds increase the rate of reaction?
Viefleur [7K]

Answer:

Chelate, any of a class of coordination or complex compounds consisting of a central metal atom attached to a large molecule, called a ligand, in a cyclic or ring structure. An example of a chelate ring occurs in the ethylenediamine-cadmium complex:

The ethylenediamine ligand has two points of attachment to the cadmium ion, thus forming a ring; it is known as a didentate ligand. (Three ethylenediamine ligands can attach to the Cd2+ ion, each one forming a ring as depicted above.) Ligands that can attach to the same metal ion at two or more points are known as polydentate ligands. All polydentate ligands are chelating agents.

Chelates are more stable than nonchelated compounds of comparable composition, and the more extensive the chelation—that is, the larger the number of ring closures to a metal atom—the more stable the compound. This phenomenon is called the chelate effect; it is generally attributed to an increase in the thermodynamic quantity called entropy that accompanies chelation. The stability of a chelate is also related to the number of atoms in the chelate ring. In general, chelates containing five- or six-membered rings are more stable than chelates with four-, seven-, or eight-membered rings.

An undergraduate weighed out 20grams of sodium hydroxide pellets. If Na =23, O = 16 andH = 1, What is the mole of this sodium hy
tatuchka [14]
The answer would be .5 mols because you take the total amount of grams, which is 20, and you had up the molar mass of sodium hydroxide, which would be 40. After you have this you would set this up as a stochiometry equation. With 1 mol on top you dived 20/40 to cancel out your grams. This leaves you with .5 mols
