Not exactly the best way to describe it but, it is used to calculate resistance of a lever as in the use of a pry bar or pulley. Technology used to increase output with little input.

A 100-kg astronaut is floating in outer space. If the astronaut throws a 2-kilogram wrench at a speed of 10 meters per second, w
sergey [27]

Since Astronaut and wrench system is isolated in the space and there is no external force on it

So here momentum of the system will remain conserved

so here we can say

m_1v_{1i} + m_2v_{2i} = m_1v_{1f} + m_2v_{2f}

initially both are at rest

so here plug in all values

0 = 100 v_{1f} + 2\times 10

v_{1f} = -0.20 m/s

so here the astronaut will move in opposite direction and its speed will be equal to 0.20 m/s

A 60 kilogram astronaut weighs 96 newtons on the surface of the moon. calculate the acceleration due to gravity on the moon.

Given: Mass m = 60 Kg

           Weight  W = 96 N

Required: Acceleration due to gravity, g = ?

Formula:  W = mg

                g = W/g

                g = 96 Kg.m/s²/60 Kg   (note: this is the derive unit for Newton "N")

                g = 1.6 m/s²

An airplane is heading due south at a speed of 560 km/h . If a wind begins blowing from the southwest at a speed of 80.0 km/h (a
polet [3.4K]

Answer:

the magnitude of Vpg = 493.711 km/h

Explanation:

given data

speed Vpg = 560 km/h

speed Vwg = 80 km/h

solution

we get here magnitude of the plane velocity w.r.t. ground is

we know that the Vpg = Vpw + Vwg       .....................1

writing the component of the velocity that is

Vpw = (0 km/h î - 560 km/h j )

Vwg = (80 cos 45 km/h î + 80 sin 45 km/h j)

adding these

Vpg = (0+80 cos 45 km/h ) î  + ( -560 + 80 sin 45 km/h j)i

Vpg = (42.025 )  î  (-491.92 km/h)j

now we take magnitude

the magnitude of Vpg = \sqrt{(42.025^2+(-491.92)^2)} km/h

the magnitude of Vpg = 493.711 km/h
