1. With the aid of a Hess cycle, determine the enthalpy of the decomposition reaction of sodium nitrate, NaNO3 to sodium nitrite
lakkis [162]

Answer:

Explanation:

2NaNO₃ = 2NaNO₂ + O₂

NaNO₃    =     NaNO₂   +    1/2 O₂

- 468 kJ           -369 kJ           0  kJ

enthalpy of decomposition reaction

= - 369 - ( - 468 ) kJ

= 99 kJ / mol .

Cobalt-59 is the only stable isotope of this transition metal. One ⁵⁹Co atom has a mass of 58.933198 amu. Calculate the binding
Temka [501]

Cobalt-59 is the only stable isotope of this transition metal. • Mass of proton = 1.00783 amu1.00783 amu

What is isotope ?

Isotopes are two or more atom types that share the same atomic number (number of protons in their nuclei), location in the periodic table, and chemical element but have distinct nucleon numbers (mass numbers) as a result of having a different number of neutrons in their nuclei. Although the chemical properties of each isotope of a given element are nearly identical, they differ in their atomic weights and physical characteristics.

The name "isotope" refers to the fact that different isotopes of a single element occupy the same location on the periodic table. The term "isotope" is derived from the Greek words isos ("equal") and topos ("place"), which together indicate "the same place." In 1913, Scottish physician and author Margaret Todd suggested the term to British chemist Frederick Soddy.

If 0.094 moles of magnesium react with excess oxygen, how many moles of magnesium oxide would be formed?
VMariaS [17]

The equation for this reaction is

\text{Mg}+\text{O} \longrightarrow \text{MgO}

This means that for every mole of magnesium consumed, 1 mole of magnesium oxide is produced.

So, the answer is 0.094 moles.

Iron can rust when exposed to oxygen. What method could be used to prevent iron from rusting?
steposvetlana [31]
Iron does not rust from oxygen itself. Iron needs to be in contact with H2O, which is water and oxygen. So just keep iron out of contact with water, or when you do, make sure you wipe the iron dry. :) Hope this helps!
