A wagon is rolling forward on level ground. Friction is negligible. The person sitting in the wagon is holding a rock. The total

mass of the wagon, rider, and rock is 93.1 kg. The mass of the rock is 0.292 kg. Initially the wagon is rolling forward at a speed of 0.456 m/s. Then the person throws the rock with a speed of 15.4 m/s. Both speeds are relative to the ground. Find the speed of the wagon after the rock is thrown (a) directly forward in one case and (b) directly backward in another.

Answer:

a) 0.41 m/s

b) 0.51 m/s

Explanation:

(a)

M = total mass of wagon, rider and the rock = 93.1 kg

V = initial velocity of wagon = 0.456 m/s

m = mass of the rock = 0.292 kg

v = velocity of rock after throw = 15.4 m/s

V' = velocity of wagon after rock is thrown

Using conservation of momentum

M V = m v + (M - m) V'

(93.1) (0.456) = (0.292) (15.4) + (93.1 - 0.292) V'

V' = 0.41 m/s

b)

M = total mass of wagon, rider and the rock = 93.1 kg

V = initial velocity of wagon = 0.456 m/s

m = mass of the rock = 0.292 kg

v = velocity of rock after throw = - 15.4 m/s

V' = velocity of wagon after rock is thrown

Using conservation of momentum

M V = m v + (M - m) V'

(93.1) (0.456) = (0.292) (- 15.4) + (93.1 - 0.292) V'

V' = 0.51 m/s

A helicopter is rising straight up. the height of a helicopter above the ground is given by h = 3.50t3, where h is in meters and
allochka39001 [22]

First, we need to calculate for the height where the mailbag was dropped.

h = 3.50 * t^3

at t = 1.75 s, h is:

h = 3.50 * (1.75)^3

h = 18.758 m

Then we can use the equation to solve for time:

h = v0t + 0.5gt^2

where v0 is initial velocity = 0, t = time, g = acceleration due to gravity

18.758 m = 0 + 0.5 * (9.81 m/s^2) * t^2

t^2 = 3.8242

t = 1.96 s

So the mailbag reaches the ground after 1.96 seconds

5) An object 9.0 m off the ground has 86 J of
MissTica

Answer:

Correct answer: Ep₁ = 105.11 J

Explanation:

if we take as the zero reference point the bottom of the hole then the height difference is 11 m. Let named h₁ = 11 m

The formula for calculating potential energy is:

E p = m g h => mg · 9.0 m = 86 J => mg = 86/9

when we substitute this into the next formula we get

m g h₁ = 86/9 · 11 = 105.11 J

The focal length of david's lens is 60 cm. if rebecca stands in front of david at a distance of do and david perceives the posit
Makovka662 [10]

if rebecca stands in front of david at a distance of do and david perceives the position of rebecca at di, di will be +84 cm

What is focal length ?

How strongly light converges or diverges depends on an optical system's focal length, which is the inverse of optical power. A system with a positive focus length is said to converge light, whereas one with a negative focal length is said to diverge light.

focal length = +60 cm

magnification m = -0.40

focal length being positive an magnification negative.

given lens is a convex lens.

for a lens

m = di/do and 1/f = (1/di) - (1/do)di

= -0.4do1/f = (1/-0.4do) - 1/do do

= -210 cmdi = -0.4 * -210

di = +84 cm
