Answer:

X₂O₃ , Y₂O

Explanation:

Valency of an element tells how well that element can form compounds with other atoms.

It sometimes, is also determined by the number of hydrogen atoms that it combines with.

Oxygen usually has a valency of 2, or oxidation state of -2.

That means oxygen will need 2 more electrons in it's outer shell to form a configuration of a noble gas(octet configuration).

The oxidation state of an atom in a molecule gives the number of valence electrons it has gained or lost.

Assuming both X and Y are less electronegative than oxygen, X  has a valency of 3 and OS of +3.

While forming a neutral compound, we need no net charge on the compound. In X₂O₃,

total charge on X is 2 x (OS of X)= 2 x ( +3) = +6

total charge on O is 3 x (OS of O)= 3 x ( -2) = -6

Net charge is 0.

Similarly, in Y₂O

total charge on Y is 2 x (OS of Y)= 2 x ( +1) = +2

total charge on O is 1 x (OS of O)= 1 x ( -2) = -2

Net charge is 0.

When double-stranded DNA is heated at neutral pH, which change does not occur?
Sindrei [870]

Answer:

B) The covalent N-glycosidic bond between the base and the pentose breaks

Explanation:

When forces that bind 2 DNA strands are broken, these strands finally split. This process is called denaturalization

The main forces that remain both DNA strands together are the hydrogen bonds (physical forces), between pair of bases (Adenine with Thymine, and Guanine with Cytosine)

Denaturalization may occur by different factor: Ph alteration, salt addition, temperature (heating), etc

When heating a DNA solution, denaturalization process may be followed using UV absorption (normally, at wavelength of 260 nm): when DNA (double strand) has its regular structure, UV light absorption is low, as the nitrogen bases are stacked like a pile of coins, for which structure absorbs less light

When DNA structure is denaturalized, these nitrogen bases are exposed, and UV absorption increases

Also, DNA denaturalization may be followed by viscosity: for a double strand DNA solution, viscosity is high due to double chain stiffness but when strands are denaturalized, simple strands solution are less viscous (so viscosity decreases over time, when heating the solution)

Lastly, when solution is heated, only physical forces are broken (hydrogen bonds) and not chemical bonds (such as covalent bonds), for which extreme conditions are needed

The table below shows the density of a sample of a mystery liquid you tested in the lab. Can you infer the identity of the subst
Mashutka [201]

Answer:

A. Yes, the substance must be water.

Explanation:

The density of a substance is unique to it. Density is defined the as the amount of substance contained per volume.

One of the ways of identifying a substance is to determine its density. Every matter is known to have their own specific densities. This makes them different from other substances. The density of gold is unique to it and it differs from that of silver.

In fact, water has density of 1.00gcm⁻³. Experimental errors and some little factors must have altered our expected figure. This a case of precision and accuracy in the experiment.
