Answer:

I wouldnt say SI unit isnt important but the Metric System certainly is. And Metric System is more closer to SI unit than imperial unit. Amongst many , the most important one is the ease of use. We upgraded the number system to base 10, why hesitate to import the measurement units to base 10.
