Kyle's science class is doing an experiment to find out about the effects of different temperatures on Mexican jumping beans. Th

e teacher has divided the class into different groups. Each group will conduct their experiment and report back to the class on their findings.
During the experiment, Kyle's group made an error with a temperature measurement. The error was corrected. Should the mistake be shared with the class? Why or why not?

Answer:

Yes, to educate other groups on possible measurement errors that can cause variation in results

Explanation:

Having divided the class in groups, the teacher expects the results of all groups if doing similar experiment to be within a certain range. In case Kyle's group never corrected the error, they could have results out of range as expected. It is prudent that the mistake be shared with the whole class so that in future there should not be a repeat of the same.

Force X has a magnitude of 1260 pounds, and Force Y has a magnitude of 1530 pounds. They act on a single point at an angle of 4
weeeeeb [17]

Answer:

Fe= 2579.68 P

α= 24.8°

Explanation:

Look at the attached graphic

we take the forces acting on the x-y plane and applied at the origin of coordinates

FX = 1260 P , horizontal (-x)

FY = 1530  P , forming 45° with positive x axis

x-y components FY

FYx= - 1530*cos(45)° = - 1081.87 P

FYy= -  1530*sin(45)° = - 1081.87 P

Calculation of the components of net force (Fn)

Fnx= FX + FYx

Fnx= -1260 P -1081.87 P

Fnx= -2341.87 P

Fny=FYy

Fny= -1081.87 P

Calculation of the components of equilibrant force (Fe)

the x-y components of the  equilibrant force are equal in magnitude but in the opposite direction to the net force components:

Fnx= -2341.87 P, then, Fex= +2341.87 P

Fny=  -1081.87 P P, then, Fex= +1081.87 P

Magnitude of the equilibrant (Fe)

F_{n} = \sqrt{(F_{nx})^{2} +(F_{ny})^{2}  }

F_{e} =\sqrt{(2341.87)^{2}+(1081.87)^{2}  }

Fe= 2579.68 P

Calculation of the direction of  equilibrant force (α)

\alpha =tan^{-1} (\frac{F_{ny} }{F_{nx} } )

\alpha =tan^{-1} (\frac{1081.87 }{2341.87} )

α= 24.8°

Two balls with equal masses, m, and equal speed, v, engage in a head on elastic collision. what is the final velocity of each ba
Allushta [10]
The collision is elastic. This means that both momentum and kinetic energy are conserved after the collision.

- Let's start with conservation of momentum. The initial momentum of the total system is the sum of the momenta of the two balls, but we should put a negative sign in front of the velocity of the second ball, because it travels in the opposite direction of ball 1. So ball 1 has mass m and speed v, while ball 2 has mass m and speed -v:
p_i = p_1-p_2 = mv-mv =0
So, the final momentum must be zero as well:
p_f = 0
Calling v1 and v2 the velocities of the two balls after the collision, the final momentum can be written as
p_f = mv_1 + mv_2 = 0
From which
v_1 = -v_2

- So now let's apply conservation of kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of each ball is \frac{1}{2} mv^2. Therefore, the total kinetic energy before the collision is
K_i = \frac{1}{2} mv^2 +  \frac{1}{2} mv^2 = mv^2
the kinetic energy after the collision must be conserved, and therefore must be equal to this value:
K_f = K_i = mv^2 (1)
But the final kinetic energy, Kf, is also
K_f =  \frac{1}{2} mv_1^2 +  \frac{1}{2}mv_2^2
Substituting v_1 = -v_2 as we found in the conservation of momentum, this becomes
K_f = mv_2 ^2
we also said that Kf must be equal to the initial kinetic energy (1), therefore we can write
mv_2^2 = mv^2

Therefore, the two final speeds of the balls are
v_2 = v
v_1 = -v_2 = -v

This means that after the collision, the two balls have same velocity v, but they go in the opposite direction with respect to their original direction.
