A 4.10 g bullet moving at 837 m/s strikes a 820 g wooden block at rest on a frictionless surface. The bullet emerges, traveling

in the same direction with its speed reduced to 467 m/s. (a) What is the resulting speed of the block? (b) What is the speed of the bullet-block center of mass?

Answer:

(a) 1.85 m/s

(b) 4.1 m/s

Explanation:

Data

  • bullet mass, Mb = 4.10 g
  • initial bullet velocity, Vbi = 837 m/s
  • wooden block mass, Mw = 820 g
  • initial wooden block  velocity, Vwi = 0 m/s
  • final bullet velocity, Vbf = 467 m/s

(a) From the conservation of momentum:

Mb*Vbi + Mw*Vwi = Mb*Vbf + Mw*Vwf

Mb*(Vbi - Vbf)/Mw = Vwf

4.1*(837 - 467)/820 = Vwf

Vwf = 1.85 m/s

(b) The speed of the center of mass speed is calculated as follows:

V = Mb/(Mb + Mw) * Vbi

V = 4.1/(4.1 + 820) * 837

V = 4.1 m/s

Answer:

The time is  t = 0.02 \ s

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

  The period of the circuit is  T = 0.04

Generally voltage maximization of the capacitor occurs during the voltage minimization of the inductor and vise versa

So the time between the voltage maximization of the capacitor and that of the inductor is mathematically represented as

           t = \frac{T}{2}

=>        t = \frac{0.04}{2}

=>        t = 0.02 \ s

Why do astronomers use spectroscopes to analyze light from distant objects?
RoseWind [281]
Spectroscopy — the use of light from a distant object to work out the object is made of — could be the single-most powerful tool astronomers use, says Professor Fred Watson from the Australian Astronomical Observatory. ... "It lets you see the chemicals being absorbed or emitted by the light source.

A -kilogram car travels at a constant speed of 20. meters per second around a horizontal circular track. The diameter of the tra
Tatiana [17]

Answer:

The centripetal acceleration of the car is 8\ m/s^2.

Explanation:

Let the mass of the car, m=10^3\ kg

Diameter of the circular path, d = 100 m

Speed of car, v = 20 m/s

Radius, r = 50 m

When an object moves in a circular path, the centripetal acceleration acts on it. It is given by :

a=\dfrac{v^2}{r}

a=\dfrac{(20\ m/s)^2}{50\ m}

a=8\ m/s^2

So, the centripetal acceleration of the car is 8\ m/s^2. Hence, this is the required solution.

Define torque qualitatively and quantitatively.
abruzzese [7]
When you use a wrench to tighten or loosen a nut on a bolt, you are applying torque. It is measured in units of force times distance.  A force of F newtons pulling on a handle of L meters in length would supply a torque of F L newton-meters. More technically, torque is the vector cross product of force times perpendicular distance from the object, F x r = F r sin @
