A 65-kg ice skater stands facing a wall with his arms bent and then pushes away from the wall by straightening his arms. At the

instant at which his fingers lose contact with the wall, his center of mass has moved 0.50 m , and at this instant he is traveling at 2.5 m/s .
a)What is the average force exerted by the wall on him?
b)What is the work done by the wall on him?
c)What is the change in the kinetic energy of his center of mass?

Answer:

(a). The average force exerted by the wall on him is 406.25 N.

(b). The work done by the wall on him is zero.

(c). The change in the kinetic energy of his center of mass is 203.1 J.

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass of ice = 65 kg

Distance = 0.50 m

Speed = 2.5 m/s

(a). We need to calculate the average force exerted by the wall on him

Using work energy theorem

W=\Delta K

Fd=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

F=\dfrac{\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2}{d}

F=\dfrac{mv^2}{2d}

Put the value into the formula

F=\dfrac{65\times(2.5)^2}{2\times0.50}

F=406.25\ N

(b). The wall does not move so the displacement is zero.

We need to calculate the work done by the wall on him

Using formula of work done

W=Fd

Put the value into the formula

W=406.25\times0

W=0

(c). We need to calculate the change in the kinetic energy of his center of mass

Using formula of change in kinetic energy

\Delta K=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2

Put the value into the formula

\Delta K=\dfrac{1}{2}\times65\times(2.5)^2

\Delta K=203.1\ J

Hence, (a). The average force exerted by the wall on him is 406.25 N.

(b). The work done by the wall on him is zero.

(c). The change in the kinetic energy of his center of mass is 203.1 J.

Students asked to measure the temperature of a reaction beaker recorded the following temperatures. 103.7°C, 108.4°C, 105.8°C, 1
zavuch27 [327]

Answer:

The measurement which is the most precise is 104.6 °C.

Explanation:

The measurement which is most precise must be very close to the actual value of the temperature.

Thus, the unit which have less value of the |Δx| (error) must be most precise.

Thus,

Actual value = 105.1 °C

Value = 103.7 °C

<u>|Δx| = 1.4 °C</u>

Value = 108.4 °C

<u>|Δx| = 3.3 °C</u>

Value = 105.8 °C

<u>|Δx| = 0.7 °C</u>

Value = 104.6 °C

<u>|Δx| = 0.5 °C</u>

<u>Thus, The measurement which is the most precise is 104.6 °C.</u>

PLEASE HELP!!
BartSMP [9]

Answer:A) 19.8 seconds

B) 467.5 metres

Explanation: 100km/hr = 27.78m/s

So, it covers 27.78 metres in one second

Take the time it would cover 550m as x

Therefore 27.78m = 1second

550m = x

Cross multiplying

27.78x = 550m

Divide both sides by the coefficient of x

x = 550÷27.78

x = 19.8seconds

B) distance = speed × time

Speed = 85km/hr = 23.61m/s

Time = 19.8seconds

Therefore,

Distance = 23.61 × 19.8

Distance = 467.5m

Which of newtons laws is illustrated by a squid moving forward by shooting water out behind it? Why?
Dimas [21]
I believe its newtons 3rd law for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction since the squid is moving foward by shooting the water its pushing the squid back as its reaction. Hope this helped !
