consider the forward direction as positive and backward direction as negative. hence displacement in froward direction will be taken as positive and displacement in backward direction will be taken as negative.

\underset{d_{1}}{\rightarrow}\\ = displacement in forward direction = 10 meters

\underset{d_{2}}{\rightarrow}\\ = displacement in backward direction = - 5  meters

\underset{d_{net}}{\rightarrow}\\ = net displacement

net displacement is given as

\underset{d_{net}}{\rightarrow}\\ = \underset{d_{1}}{\rightarrow}\\ + \underset{d_{2}}{\rightarrow}\\

\underset{d_{net}}{\rightarrow}\\ = 10 + (- 5)

\underset{d_{net}}{\rightarrow}\\ =  5 meters

Since net displacement is positive , and forward is positive direction of motion.

hence the displacement is 5 meters in forward direction.

b)

d₁ = distance traveled in forward direction = 10 meters

d₂ = distance traveled in backward direction = 5 meters

D = total distance traveled

total distance traveled is given as

D = d₁ + d₂

D = 10 + 5

D = 15 meters

During one cycle, a refrigerator removes 500 J from a cold reservoir and discharges 800 J to its hot reservoir. (a) What is its
Paraphin [41]

Answer:

a)COP = 1.67

b) W = 300 J

Explanation:

given,

refrigerator removes = 500 J from a cold reservoir

discharge = 800 J to its hot reservoir

a) COP = \dfrac{Q}{w}

   COP = \dfrac{500}{800-500}

   COP = 1.67

b) heat per cycle exhausted to the

     W + 500 = 800

     W = 800- 500

      W = 300 J

Kinetic energy is: which one is the correct answer A,B,C,or D A.inversely proportional to mass and velocity B.directly proportio
raketka [301]

Answer: A

Explanation: because The kinetic energy of a moving object is directly proportional to its mass and directly proportional to the square of its velocity. The kinetic energy of an object can be changed by doing work on the object.

In point a:

The answer is "bottom".

In point b:

Using formula:

T= mg + \frac{m V^2}{2}

Two canoeists in identical canoes exert the same effort paddling and hence maintain the same speed relative to the water. One pa
san4es73 [151]

Answer:

a) speed of water relative to shore = 0.85 m/s

b) speed of each canoe relative to the water =  2.05 m/s

Explanation:

Let the speed of the canoeists be 'v'

and,

the speed of stream relative to shore be 'u'

therefore,

for the canoeist padding upstream

u - v = - 1.2 m/s .............(1)

and,

for the canoeist padding downstream

u + v = 2.9 m/s  .............(2)

on adding equation (1) and (2), we get

   u - v = - 1.2

+  u + v = 2.9

===========

  2u + 0 = 1.7

or

u = 0.85 m/s

substituting u in equation 2 we get

0.85 + v = 2.9

or

v = 2.05 m/s

Hence,

a) speed of water relative to shore = 0.85 m/s

b) speed of each canoe relative to the water =  2.05 m/s
