A block is balanced on top of a frictionless sphere of radius R. When the block is given a slight nudge it starts to slide down

the surface of the sphere. How far (measured vertically) below the top of the sphere does the block lose contact with the surface of the sphere?

Answer:\frac{R}{3}

Explanation:

Given

Sphere of Radius R

Suppose mass of block is m

At any instant \theta Normal reaction(N) and weight(mg) is acting such that

mg\sin \theta -N=\frac{mv^2}{R}  , where v is velocity of block at any angle \theta

When block is just about to leave then N=0

therefore

mg\sin \theta =\frac{mv^2}{R}

v^2=gR\sin \theta-------------------1

Also by conserving Energy we get

Potential Energy=kinetic Energy of block

mgh=\frac{mv^2}{2}

here h=vertical distance traveled by block

From diagram

h=R-R\sin \theta

h=R(1-\sin \theta )

mgR(1-\sin \theta )=\frac{mv^2}{2}

2gR(1-\sin \theta )=v^2-----------------2

From 1 and  2

2(1-\sin \theta )=\sin \theta

3\sin \theta =2

\sin \theta =\frac{2}{3}

Thus from this value of h is

h=R(1-\sin \theta )

h=R(1-\frac{2}{3})

h=\frac{R}{3}

You have a bowling ball with a mass of 4kg. You throw it with an acceleration of 10 m/s/s. With how much force will it hit the p
Eddi Din [679]

Answer:

<h3>The answer is 40 N</h3>

Explanation:

The force acting on an object can be found by using the formula

<h3>force = mass × acceleration</h3>

From the question

mass = 4 kg

acceleration = 10 m/s²

So we have

force = 4 × 10

We have the final answer as

<h3>40 N</h3>

Hope this helps you

A student observes that it is hard to hear music underwater in a pool. They state that the sound is always muffled. They
s344n2d4d5 [400]

Answer:

FALSE

Explanation:

The answer is false.

The speed of the sound in water is  faster when compared to the speed of sound in air. This is because, the particles in air is loosely packed and are far from each other as compared to water or liquid.

The water particles are close to each other than air particles, so water particles are able to transmit the vibrations of the sound faster than the air particles.

Therefore sound waves travels faster in water than in air.

As an aid in working this problem, consult Interactive Solution 3.41. A soccer player kicks the ball toward a goal that is 20.0
alekssr [168]

Answer:

V=14.9 m/s

Explanation:

In order to solve this problem, we are going to use the formulas of parabolic motion.

The velocity X-component of the ball is given by:

Vx=V*cos(\alpha)\\Vx=15.7*cos(31^o)=13.5m/s

The motion on the X axis is a constant velocity motion so:

t=\frac{d}{Vx}\\t=\frac{20.0}{13.5}=1.48s

The whole trajectory of the ball takes 1.48 seconds

We know that:

Vy=Voy+(a)*t\\Vy=15.7*sin(31^o)+(-9.8)*(1.48)=-6.42m/s

Knowing the X and Y components of the velocity, we can calculate its magnitude by:

V=\sqrt{Vx^2+Vy^2} \\V=\sqrt{(13.5)^2+(-6.42)^2}=14.9m/s

Dams are made wider at the bottom than at the top?
malfutka [58]
Yes dams are made wider at the bottom because the pressure of the water pressure is greater there

If a fisherman applies a horizontal force with magnitude 47.0 NN to the box and produces an acceleration of magnitude 3.20 m/s2m
musickatia [10]

Answer:

The correct solution is "14.6875 kg".

Explanation:

Given values:

Force,

F = 47.0 N

Acceleration,

a = 3.20 m/s²

Now,

⇒ Force=Mass\times Acceleration

or,

⇒       F=ma

⇒    47.0=m\times 3.20

⇒       m=\frac{47.0}{3.20}

⇒           =14.6875 \ kg
