A block is balanced on top of a frictionless sphere of radius R. When the block is given a slight nudge it starts to slide down

the surface of the sphere. How far (measured vertically) below the top of the sphere does the block lose contact with the surface of the sphere?

Answer:\frac{R}{3}

Explanation:

Given

Sphere of Radius R

Suppose mass of block is m

At any instant \theta Normal reaction(N) and weight(mg) is acting such that

mg\sin \theta -N=\frac{mv^2}{R}  , where v is velocity of block at any angle \theta

When block is just about to leave then N=0

therefore

mg\sin \theta =\frac{mv^2}{R}

v^2=gR\sin \theta-------------------1

Also by conserving Energy we get

Potential Energy=kinetic Energy of block

mgh=\frac{mv^2}{2}

here h=vertical distance traveled by block

From diagram

h=R-R\sin \theta

h=R(1-\sin \theta )

mgR(1-\sin \theta )=\frac{mv^2}{2}

2gR(1-\sin \theta )=v^2-----------------2

From 1 and  2

2(1-\sin \theta )=\sin \theta

3\sin \theta =2

\sin \theta =\frac{2}{3}

Thus from this value of h is

h=R(1-\sin \theta )

h=R(1-\frac{2}{3})

h=\frac{R}{3}

The fire alarm goes off, and a 75 kg firefighter slides down a pole with a constant acceleration of a = 6 m/s square. What is th
Alex17521 [72]

Answer:

450N

Explanation:

Given data

Mass m= 75kg

Acceleration= 6m/s^2

From the Newtons first law, F=ma

substitute

F=75*6

F= 450N

Hence the force is 450N

The light at an intersection is red and a police officer directs you to go through the intersection. what should you do?
Alex777 [14]

Go through the intersection without stopping is the appropriate action to be taken in a case where the light at an intersection is red and a police officer directs you to go through it.

<h3>What is Traffic light?</h3>

This is also referred to as stoplights and is present in the intersection of roads etc so as to help control traffic and prevent the occurrences of accidents on the road.

In cases where there is no officer, the traffic light must be obeyed but where the officer is present then his authority overrules and must be obeyed as he is in the best position to know the reason why the traffic light should be ignored in this type of scenario.

This is therefore the reason why the individual should go through the intersection without stopping.
